best mod for under £50?!

Featured Replies

I'm looking after my brothers Fabia 1.4 MPi comfort until october,

i run three of my own cars as well so my funds are always prioritised towards them

but say i had a spare £50 and wanted to make one choice mod to the fabia,

preferable handling/performance oriented but would consider tasteful aesethetic mods.

Please assume that i would happily buy used/second hand parts and i must be able to fit it myself(i am not a skilled mechanic and only have my driveway to work on)

The car already benefits from four Toyo T1-R 185/55/14 on the steelies which are brand new

servicing is all up to date and i have just replaced the backbox(standard mild steel box)

now i know £50 is a very small budget but im only looking for something minor,

for example a LCR front splitter, but i notice they get fitted to VRS models, not sure if i can fit it to my comfort model.

LCR splitters are only £50 so within budget.

also considered a front strut brace but i don't think they really do anything

any ideas would be great

P.S.

if anyone is selling a used rear afermarket ARB for £50 then that would do perfect!

Any short shifters available for fabia 1.4's???

do the short shifter mod yourself, theres a guide on here how to do it will cost you zero, remove the back seats save abit of weight, more mpg slightly improved performance, you could prob build an induction kit for 50 quid with a decent filter a 90degree silicone pipe to have it sitting where the airbox of the vrs is out the way, otherwise look at changing the console bushes with some powerflex or seat cupra r items that will improve the steering front end feel, and as for a rarb for 50quid your be very lucky lol

also what colours your fabia, colour code the front grill for under 50quid

You could always just make the shifter short? Fair few people on here have done that now.

If you have the original standard bumper then I don't think you'll pull off the LCR splitter.

eBay had a load of cheap OEM sport body parts recently.. could buy one, slap it on and get it wrapped to save paint cash?

Beat me to it! ;)

If you can squeeze the budget to make the rarb then I would go for that, otherwise I'd just keep that 50 for your other cars in all honesty.

Tried upper front strut, springs, bushes and induction kit also in the mpi once upon a time and imo wasn't really worth the money.

yeah i know front upper strut braces make very little difference as a sole mod!

1)okay so LCR splitter is out of the window.

2)I don't fancy changing the bushes on the suspension as it can be fiddly sometimes and i'm no great mechanic.

3) i like the homemade short shifter idea alot though, defo looking into that.

4)removing seats, spare wheel, carpet from rear; just ruins weight disribution and make the rear ride even higher.

5) My car is red

6)Induction kit?? how much easier breathing does a 68bhp engine have to be, i can sort a sealed induction kit out for £30 but not sure if it's worth trying to eek more power out of this engine??? unless someone has a ported head or a longer duration camshaft lying about that they want to sell

Ques

is the rear bumper of my car different to the VRS if so then i might try to pick-up a used vrs rear bumper and fit it myself, i would try the front bumper but i fear that £50 would not get me a vrs front bumper plus i would have to fiddle with the front fogs etc etc. i will have a check on ebay though.

Could anyone list the different aftermarket rear arb's available on the market so i can get an idea of cost. would be nice to make it less wallowie to drive!

if it was my car i would simply sell it and get the 1.4 16v with a bit more grunt as a starting point. but it's only with me for another 6months.

Yeah, that's the kinda parts I was on about..

They look genuine enough to me.. The Fabia wasn't known for it's sporty nature out of the box, wouldn't surprise me if these are all just left over stock that being gotten rid of now the cars 4 years out of production. And in the case of the front bumper.. 6 years out of production.

If I still had my Elegance it'd be kitted up by now with the price that these are going at.

Just knocked this up from that auction picture for ya.

Show's what It'd look like wrapped in matt black rather than paying for paint.. Or seeing as it's matt if you just painted it with some rattle cans.. it's not like your after a nice shinny finish.

It's quite "Scout" ish.

If you have any left over.. do the grille surround ;)

And the back, with more wrap, and that skirt.. and some light tint.. Could look like this ;)

Get the grill carbon wrapped or wrapped to match the colour of your car

so is my rear bumper in two sections then??? or does this simply stick on??

yeah the front bumper is very very tempting, i just hope it will still be there on 28th april(payday) for me to buy!!!

Thanks Rob for knocking up those pictures.

for the record i would probably rattle can spray it! it's likely that should it be sold in october i will put the original bumpers back on and sell these. probably for not far off what i pay too!

Sorry bud, but in both cases these skirts have to be bonded on top of / on to the original bumper.. they're not clip on. You'd have to buy a couple of used bumpers to keep the originals for selling.. and that leaves you back with the cost of paint paint problem.

Best use of £50?

Fill the tank and enjoy it!
