Featured Replies

as above really, its the one that comes on with the ignition and looks like an engine.it flashes when the car is driven, but the car now runs like poo in limp mode.do you guys know any common faults on mk1 octy vrs' that might cause this.the book says its summat to do with the exhaust emmisions.the car ran great yesterday and even got me 46mpg on the way home from work which is 27 miles away.i now have to cycle to work yay!!!!!!

hmm could be anything.. only way to find out is to get it plugged in to diagnostics.. typical things are coilpacks, maf sensor, lambda sensor, cam position sensor.. sensor sensor sensor lol

cool,i'll try unit 18 tmrw to see if they can plug it in.i did notice the other day that the idle has dropped a bit.do any members have part numbers or prices for the common sensors to go,or for any you have had to replace recently.thanks for the reply mate..

Coolant temp sensor can cause all sorts of rough running/idling starting issues hot and cold. I just bought one from someone's retrogradations on briskoda

here it is if you are interested; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400208712041&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2651wt_932

I would find the problem before shelling money on various sensors however if you haven't replaced your coolant temp sensor and still have the black one IMO I would replace it as they are known to be faulty so will probably go anyway in future..

On my mk1 octy vrs when 1 of the coil packs failed my car ran very rough & the engine management light flashed when car was running,i didnt have access to a code reader so i just unplugged 1 coil at a time & when the engine note didnt change i knew id found the faulty coil, when i replaced the coil the car ran great & the light went out(it will be stored in the ecu memory though).

cheers guys,it was a coil pack in the end,i got a borrowed one from unit 18 and went up the road and another one went pop.so i went back and got 4 new genuine coils fitted.it was on the dyno on saturday, that must have killed it.the car only ran 215bhp and 246lb/ft.not bad with a coil pack on the way out.
