MPG Computer - New Octavia

Featured Replies

 Has anyone noticed inaccuracies in the MPG computer of their car. Mine (Octavia Ambient Hatch-Back 1.9 105BHP Diesel) is telling me that I am averaging 61.4 MPG on the comulative reading and over 60 MPG on almost every time on the trip reading. Yet, over some 8,500 miles - working the fuel consumption out on fill up to fill up - I am averaging 54 to 55 MPG.

By the was does anyone know how the computers actually work out the MPG values.

Regards

Dunno exactly how they work, but the computer in my petrol mk1 Octy is also optimistic regarding mpg: It tells me I'm getting around 36mpg average, but based on the actual fuel used to distance travelled it's actually about 34.5mpg.

Conversly, the distance remaining figure is pessimistic: It will tell me I've only got enough fuel for 40miles, but when I fill the tank I find that there's about 2.5 gallons left; enough for about 85miles.

Go figure :dizzy:

Sounds like mine, dont forget the speedo is fast too.

Now that we're getting geeky  , I'm going to throw my $0.02 in.

Something I've noticed on my [petrol] Octy vRS (mk1, obviously ;) ) is that I'm always surprised by the amount of mileage left at around '1 O'Clock' on the fuel dial, which is usually around 250-270 mile, but after 40 or so miles of motorway driving (at a cruise-controlled-gps-based 74 mph, say no more  ), the mileage left suddenly drops to 180-190 miles (12 O'Clock on the fuel dial).

Any ideas???
