Are heated seats worth having with Alcantara seats?

Featured Replies

Hi

Having decided to change from an Octavia to a 1.8 TSI SE Superb estate, I am wondering whether to go with the heated front screen + heated front seats option. For those with Alcantara seats, do you find them as cold in the winter as full leather seats? I have heated leather seats in my "other" car (a Mondeo) and they are definitely needed in winter. I have never had a car with Alcantara seats though, so I am not sure how they compare with standard cloth seats and leather ones.

Advice anyone?

Thanks

Personally I don't find a need for heaters on Alcantara or cloth seats but my wife has hip problems and they are a must for her in cold weather (and warm weather come to that).

They are not needed, but they are a very nice addition to have, especially if you ever suffer with back pain as the heated backrest can help a lot.

I would put heated front seats in the 'nice to have' category, but the heated front screen as essential. Mine will come with heated seats mostly as a means of getting the heated screen.

As a pure indulgence I have specced 4 heated seats with cloth trim. Will post an update after I have the car on how it feels (albeit in spring rather than winter)

Sorry for asking a stupid question, but isn't heated seats standard? I don't think I've ever seen a car where heated seats isn't standard, but maybe that's just in colder countries?

To answer the question, heated seats are always nice to have when you have backpain, couldn't live without it :)

@ Bobbe - Heated seats are not standard for the SE model, only for the Elegance.

So, the vibes I'm picking up here is that heated seats with Alcantara trim are not essential, but great for backaches!

It's a shame you have to order the heated seats in order to get a heated front screen.

Was OK at -15C with Alcantara trim! I prefer them to full leather, be carefull in the summer as the leather edge can still get Very Hot!!

I have found the demist to very good so would not go for heated front screen.

I have alcantara in my current octy with heated seats. Honestly, if it was not standard in the L&K spec I don't think I would have added them. But they are one of those things that once you have them you wonder how you ever managed without.

In the UK, the winters are definitely getting colder and I really appreciate having them on for a 10-15 mins when first starting the car up. I have found though, you don't really need them on for long periods because the seats hold the heat quite well. The setting is between 1-5, I've never had them on above 3 and usually only on 2.

The alternative is a thicker coat and thermal underwear....your choice! :)

My thanks to everyone that replied. I also did some general searching on other marque forums (such as BMW - wash my mouth out with soap!) and decided to save several hundred pounds and not select this option. I placed the order for the car in the week, so now is not the time for loads of replies saying they are essential with Alcantara seats!

I've gone for the 1.8 TSI estate, manual gearbox, in steel grey, with mats and auto wipers.
