Ipod charging

Featured Replies

A few weeks ago my old laptop died along with it was itunes library :( I downloaded some software that was recommended by folks on here and all look good to rescue my library onto a new PC. The problem im having is that when i plug my Ipod into my laptop using the usb cable its flattening the battery within two minutes and im only getting a fraction of the tunes downloaded!! When im using the ipod with the headfones im getting hours of play before it needs recharching.

Anyone any idea whats going on? or how to remedy the problem?

Cheers

Kit :)

Wierd, the laptop should be charging the ipod, not killing the battery.

Exactly!!Have no idea what is going on with it!!...When i charge it in the car til it says its full then use the usb cable to the laptop it just warns of low battery the just goes off!!

What type of ipod is it?

Does it do the same thing when plugged into all the USB ports on your laptop?

Does it do the same thing when plugged into another PC.

I know that I can charge my iPhone off the USB port on my Router. Do you have anything else with a powered USB port? Can you try another cable off a mate or something?

have tried it on other ports but will still need to plug it into this machine as this is what il now be using as my home for itunes library. Have charged it using a wall mains chrager and it says its full but as soon as it goes in the usb its says its flat!!...its an ipod touch which is about four years old now!

Ah that would seem to explain it then!!...but surely there would be enough of a charge on a full battery ipod to last while its syncing?

so i need a firewire card? Whatever one of those is!!...

Does a firewire port look like port that you would use to connect a didgi camera up to a pc? And how would i know if i had a high powered USB port on my machine?

laptop says i have five usb ports and one is a high speed but there are only four physical ones on the machine and none will charge the pod!!...ive sent an email to apple to see if they will let me download my purchaes again for free to another machine!!....at this stage im well fecked off!! :(

It seems very funny that your battery is draining that fast.

You could buy a cheap powered USB hub, all of which will be USB2. Therefore the hub can charge your phone, and do the data transfer.

Something like This

Did the hard drive die in the old laptop? If not, you can retrieve the entire library from it and transfer to the new one. You will still need to sort the charging issue though, a USB2 powered hub might help with charging, but syncing will take a looong time. :(

yep it had an error 32 and totally gave up the ghost...the IT guy i have through work tried to get stuff of it but it wouldnt recognise any ports!!

Think i will just start a new library on the other laptop that seems to have 2.0 USB ports. Apple have gratiously allowed me to re-download all my "purchased" music :) The other laptop doesnt have a cd/dvd drive so wont be able to put any new cd's into the library without buying a drive for it!!...All in all its been a right pain!!
