octavia 4x4

Featured Replies

recently bought 2003 1.8t 4x4 octavia with 72k and fsh well looked after

just noticed its started making a whining/whirring above 25/30 mph at front end

stops when i sharply flick wheel left and right so does this eliminate worn wheel bearing.

tyres are michelens on original alloys and have decent tread

noise gets louder as the speed increases

dipping clutch or coasting doesnt change

thought id got a cracking reliable car !

only thing i can think of is maybe a drive shaft,if so anyone know cost replacement

if anyone could spread me some light i would really appreciate it

Does sound more wheel/hub related TBH

Worth checking the brakes too for binding/rubbing

When I've had driveshafts go, I've felt distinct slippage. They also tend to get rapidily worse.

Dose the whining/whirring come back right away??? if its dose then it may indeed be bearings.

If drive shafts cheack your oil levels on F and R as thay could be very low and you yanking it form side to side could be moving whats left of the oil about and making it better for a bit.

yes the noise comes back immediately

so it seems it could be bearings then, ill take a look in morning.

just thought bearings normally fail on cornering when under load

Have had them do the groning even when driving strate but this was from a one failing from hitting a put hole :-)
