First time ICE install, confused!

Featured Replies

Hi, I bought the £9.99 blaupunkt fabia rear speaker set off ebay to fit to my fabia sdi classic. I have got the speakers in, and I (after several hours) managed to remove my JVC KD G431 Head unit without proper keys. But what I found behind the HU is confusing me. There are a load of different coloured wires and connectors all linked up, I had no idea it would be this complicated and i haven't got a clue where my rear speaker cables should go (or how to get through the glovebox with the cables in the first place) In the instructions it says 1 and 2 and 7 and 8 I think, but where are these holes? Infact where are the front speaker cables?

Can anyone advise me on whats what with this mess? Is this normal or has the previous owner made a lobs of it? Or will I find yet another black plug once I get the glovebox off, as in that last picture I can see some red and black cables lurking at the back which look more like front speaker cables then any of the ones at the front in the plugs.

thanks in advance. Cheers

Looking at the photos you need to connect the rear speaker wires into the brown plug.

Do you have the manual?

If not try this Linky

Edit: Just re-read your post, you will probably have to run speaker wires from the speakers to the HU. I can't see Skoda installing wires for rear speakers when they don't exist.

What you have there is known as a double DIN ISO connector. 1 ISO connector for the speakers (brown plug) and the other for the power, ground etc (black plug).

Looks like you just have the middle pins on the Brown ISO connected, which is your front speaker connections (left +, left -, right + and right -). you need to identify the other pins (std setup so should be easy enough from browsing the web) and connect them to you new speakers....do you have cable or is there existing wiring?

Cheers

P.S. the signal booster might need a 12v cable to tap into...

I have cable, and I have Identified the numbers.

its 1 for red cable for rear right speaker +

2 for rear right black -

7 for rear left red +

8 for rear left -

Glove box is off and ive got wires round back ready to be connected.

Only how do I get the cables in the brown ISO? Do they just push in? cos ive tried that and they wont go in, I remember hearing something about the yellow retainer clip or something that is in the brown iso, on another thread.

Oh no I figured out the retainer clip thing and removed it with a small glasses screw driver. Only problem is now ive only gone and put the shorter cable in the the right speaker holes and the the longer cable in the left speaker holes. I meant to do it the other way round. Is there a nack to getting the audio cable clips back out of the iso?

Sorry Dor I was in a rush the other day trying to fit those speakers and forgot to say thanks, so cheers pal for telling me what the ISO connector was. I hd heard that term but never knew what an ISO actually was. (an ISO to me is a disc image).

So today Im gonna try and get the speaker cable back out of the ISO plug, is there a particular way to do this as they clicked in when I inserted them. I Imagine its a case of removing yellow locking tab and then inserting something thin in to try and push the metal clips in and pull out the cable. Any advice much appreciated.

Also, I will be fitting the FM signal booster, and with the instruction it doesnt mention a need for a 12v supply, it just says plug it in to the HU, and plug the aerial into the booster and fit the blue cable that is on the booster to either the number 5 hole on the black ISO or just connect the blue cable on the booster to the blue and white cable that already occupies the number 5 hole on the black ISO. Which is best?

Thanks in advance. B)
