What mods before stage 1 remap?

Featured Replies

I've read lots of stories about moding first before a remap to get the most benefit from them. So what mods would I need to get for my car to get the best from them before a remap?

Strictly speaking you do not need any, a good service and making sure everything us tip top should be your first port of call. Most people also fit a panel filter and an after market diverter valve.

Depends on how far you want to go really, but im a believer of "hardware before software". at-least I am after going through the stages on a previous car. If your just looking at a perk up, remap and pannel filter will be just fine, if your after higher gains look down the other routes fmic/clutch etc

I'd really consider the 312mm upgrade before hand tho

a stage 1 is designed for no modifications.

If you add an intake or intercooler the ECU has enough automatic adjustability to not require any map adjustments.

I think any other hardware is pointless at stage 1

Stage 2 oe 2+ and i would agree with the above post to get all the hardware in one go, and then have the stage 2 setup around those modifications

OK, so it sounds like there is no need to do any mods on the car before a stage 1. Would it be ok for me to just put a K&N pannel filter on or would an Induction Kit be better such as AMC?

Just to confirm, you have a mkII vRS?

I went to stage 1 and fitted a piper panel filter, tbh I didn't notice any difference, I then fitted an Evoms intake, as well as the insane noise there was definately more grunt particularly in the mid range. I think this is due to how restrictive the OE filter system is on the Tfsi. As Sy has mentioned, get the intake and down pipe then go straight to stage 2, if could do it again that would be my choice. B)

No chance! you would miss out on months of stage 1 power whilst you were saving. For the sake of £150 I would get the remap first then just pay the upgrade fee
