Hey fellow skoda buffs!

Right I am a student who currently drives a skoda felicia (by this point you have probably gathered that I don't have much money) but I am looking to get a bigger car late summer time as the felicia is too small for me and my back is paying the price but instead of selling/scrapping the skoda I am thinking of taking it off the road and doing an engine swap on it so it will be properly quick. I am lusting over the idea of a VR6 lump but realistically, how hard would it be? has anyone done anything like this before or even with a golf GTI engine? Everyone on my course is a complete petrol head so I could lay my hands on any tools needed and two mates would be willing to spend time and put a little money into it so I have the man power. The main point of it would be more to gain the experience to perform engine swaps and after tinkering with the skoda, I have thought it is very easy to work on so its a perfect candidate.

Anyone have any ideas of problems that we would encounter and has anyone who has done a felicia engine swap have any hints or tips?

hello connor, firstly i'd start by saying welcome to briskoda, there's a lot of very knowledgeable folks on here ranging from rally legends to tarmac terrorists so you've come to the right place..

ok onto the engine, the felicia has a relatively large engine bay for the size of the vehicle so you can shoe-horn in a vast array of different engines, but the thing to bear in mind is none of the vw group engines will just fall into the engine bay of a felicia except for the 1.6 petrol and 1.9 diesel engines which the car originally came with, there will be some cutting, welding and fabricating involved to get anything to fit plus the major ball ache of finding driveshafts the correct length.. all the common ones have been tried or done before, c20xe vauxhall engines can be done as proven by a member on here, vr6 and 1.8T have both been done too... personally i would stay well away from the 6 cylinder thing if i were you, the vr6 engine is way outdated nowadays, and they are heavy engines too, they do make the right noises but 174bhp ish (or whatever they are?) is not a huge output considering the size of it plus they are getting to that age where they are getting hard to find in good nick or haven't gone to the moon and back.. there are far better options available to you such as a ford zetec engine or there's that other fellow on here from jamaica (i think) who's done a honda B16 engine

the felicia is a perfect candidate for it though, cheap enough not to care if you ruin it!!

don't panic too much about the wiring either, it's a really simple setup in a felicia so it's quite easy to splice the looms to make something work

Thank you! That was a better reply than I could have hoped for. I was hoping that the VW engines would fit the mounts but I couldn't find any info on it anywhere. Well if I have to fabricate and weld mounts might as well go all out and drop a chevy V8 into it lol.

don't despair though, the felicia has nice square and straight chassis rails to weld onto, it may be coincidence but the chassis rails are more or less exactly the same width apart as a mk4 golf which would make it easier to use an engine from the mk4 golf platform if you did some jiggery pokery

Awesome GTi have done a Felly VR6, so it is possible.

OTOH, as Tom says, the 1.8T is physically smaller, lighter, and makes pretty much the same power and torque in standard form.

no mention of the 1.4 16V engine swap Tom?? or doesn't it provide enough poke...

not sure if you read the fabia 2 threads Tom but i've gone and bought a new Fabia Greenline 2 recently... i still wanna do that stuff to the Felicia though.. as not getting Fabia till November 25th

the 1.4-16v engine is perfect for a felicia, small, cheap, light, economical, and a dead easy transplant

If you want to go cheap, id buy a VR6 straight away. A car is not only about the engine, also chassis, brakes, suspension has to be up to speed with the block under the bonnet. Upgrading a Felica might sound tempting, but i feel if you are not doing this for fun or for "just a heck of it", dump the idea and buy other car.

In the long run its cheaper to buy a faster car right off the bat, not to try upgrade the current to whats its never designed. But if it is a "project car" then by all means...

I hear you guys over the UK have ridiculous insurance taxes, so those youngsters couldn`t pay for anything else than those 1.0l Peugeot thingys.

In my country, i see teeners rolling in old 750i and A8s...no problem.
