2005 Fabia VRS; had a new ASZ engine installed in 2007 after original was hydrau-locked.

Does this engine have a metal or plastic impeller on the water pump?

When I change the cambelt later this year, should I use a plastic or metal impeller water pump ?

Ive read conflicting reasons for using a plastic or metal impeller.(the metal is said to cause more damage if it fails hence the use of plastic but lasts longer than the plastic).

Plastic and you should replace it with plastic

+1 on plastic....I fit OEM waterpumps to mine...far rather have the time to fix it with just the posibility of a slight overheat which can be controlled....than the terminal failure of the metal impeller sticking causing the timing belt to shread....and the lovely sound of valves to pistons kissing!!!
