squealing brakes when turning!?

Featured Replies

My original brakes were knackered so got some new ones (pagid) discs and pads, when I turn right tho they squeal like mad!! Only when going slow though, can anyone suggest anything as its doing my head in now!!!!

Pads and discs will squeeeeel when new for first 800miles, until they bed in!! Buf if they don't do it when the brakes are applied, and only when they are not applied, and when turning right...then a loose bolt...bearing on the way out??? not enough info I'am afraid. :(

Only does it when turning, and not under breaking at all.

Mine had the same problem. The tolerance between the pads an the discs are very small. When turning there is a sideways load applied to the wheel/disc/hub which causes the pads to touch the disc just enough to cause it to vibrate a high frequency, causing the squeal.

File a chamfer onto the leading edge of the pads (if they aren't already chamfered). On the caliper, ensure the areas where the pads slide are clean and free from flaky paint etc. Then apply copper slip to this surface aswell as the back of the pads etc.

Did the trick for me.

iv got this bad squeal too, we done the fronts last week thinking it was them, but it must be the rear brakes, might do the handbrake mod aswell to make sure it aint sticking at all too.

try this:

drive as you would so the car makes the noise, as it makes the noise GENTLY pull up the handbrake one or two clicks so the pads just contact the disc if the noise stops you know the noise is from the rear (as you said the noise stops when you apply the brake).

i had this problem with my fabia vrs and it was the o/s/r brake caliper carrier slide that had seized up the slide snapped as i tryed to free it up so i had to replace the whole carrier not a biggie it got one from TPS for about £50 + vat but that was trade price not sure how much they are retail.

if its the front its probably the pad shim got a little bent when the pads were fitted. if you have a lip on you front discs this can cause a slight queal to. also cheap pads or high temp sport pads squeal too. if it is the shim that is a little bent take it back to the people that fitted them and let them know if there decent they should look at it free of charge as the problem only happeded after they fitted the pads and should only be a ten miniuite fix

or i have just thought could be the back plate rubbing slighlty also the fault of the garage that fitted the brakes
