Head Gasket problems

Featured Replies

Hi after some advice. The head gasket has gone on my Felicia 1.3 1995. On the way back from work the temp gauge went into the red!!! Made it home and put about 3 liters of water in it. Started it back up after about half an hour let it run for a minuet or 2, then turned it off. When I pulled the dip stick out the oil looked more like milk than oil!! The car has done about 165k and I was wondering if it was worth fix the head gasket, fitting a another engine or just binning it.

Any advise would be gratefully

Repair it as it's very easy to do a head gasket on one of these and seriously you can take it off and have it back on again in about 2 hours. I would advise have the head checked when it's off but saying that I did mine nearly two years ago and I didn't have time to get it checked and it's still going today with no problems.

165K is something, but if the car's in good nick it's probably wise to take the cost of skimming the head [£50?). A warped head may lead to coolant loss pretty soon, and also give you poorer mpg.

On the other hand, if it's a rusty, rattling banger going on overtime, just change the gasket and hope for the best.

Thanks for you help. I have just been given a Fiesta by my sister in law so more than lightly got going to fix it and sell it for spare or repair.
