My VRS tidy up project

Featured Replies

That big ol white stain on the sound proofing points it's finger straight at the missing pollen filter! lol!

Really nice to see a Fabia being out right.. Bodes well for there future popularity if people like yourself are already taking them time.

Thanks

I'm going to be having a look at the airbox seals later as it'll probably need redone.

The car just has lots of little flaws that need fixed. I'd call this a minor tidy up. I'm just quite fussy about stuff like this. I'd rather just get all the problems sorted out asap instead of letting them build up and cause bigger problems.

Hopefully I'll have another update tomorrow with a few more pics. I don't think my soundproofing will be dry enough to refit within the next 24hrs so it gives me a chance to get the floor properly cleaned and dryed and sealed where needed.

this thread is really interesting :) whereabouts are you exactly? :)

Near enough to ballymena mate.

The carpets and soundproofing will all be dry now. I'll be putting them back in tomorrow evening along with the seats.

Then I'll scrub up the black plastic trims and get them all clipped back in and get it ready hopefully for MOT soon.

Still waiting on the headlight, door seal and arch liner.

I also need to know what socket fits the driveshaft nuts so I can get the shafts out and replace a CV boot.

  • Author

Carpets all refitted and seats are back in with the new mats. I need a couple of the little twist in clips for one of the mats though.

I also need a few other bits and pieces to finish off stuff. Small fiddly clips and things missing will **** me off until I get them so I think i'll put another order in with the dealer.

Excuse the quality of some of the pics. Light was dodgy.

I also have concerns about my engine mounts. I think the lower gearbox one is crap. But can anyone tell me if this one looks like it should?

And I need to order this part for the battery surround as it was basically a twisted bent mess from not being fitted properly meaning that my fuses and battery lid was just rattling around freely.

Its coming along rightly, what products did you use to clean the seats as mine could do with a good clean

  • Author

My mate did them with a Numatic George wet vac.

Right well it seems to have done a good job  i would need to get a lend of one of these lol. I hate the colour of the seats in these, f***** nightmare to keep clean

Got a new air filter this morning. There was a recent service but I like to keep the air filters fresh.

Also picked up a new battery surround as the old one was a mangled twisted mess that someone has plastic welded or glued together and made a balls of. Would have been cheaper and easier to get a new one.

And got a few clips for the rear hatch panel.

Onwards and upwards.

Did a bit of a cleanup last night. Stripped out a lot of parts from the bay and gave it a bit of an overhaul and clean up.

Here's a couple of pics during the stripping bits out, you can see the egr has been weeping badly. I'll get pics up tomorrow of the finished bay.

New cv clamp on where the old one was missing...?

Thanks to Neil at Rockvale Graphics for the pressed plates.

Quick snap of the inside with the new mats and everything cleaned up a bit.

I think i'll be getting a new wishbone. The one that was in was completely butchered and the small ring inside there is silicone where some sort of attempt top tighten up the bushing has been made.

94653228.jpg

As far as I'm aware this is a powerflex bushing and this one in particular seems to be fairly worn. It might be due to the fact that the wishbone is scrap though.

I also finished the pillars.

And fitted them.

how much was the bush for the engine mount? and where did you get it from?

  • Author

ebay - £45 delivered and it was here within about a day and a half.

I know I've already said this, but I'll say it again! It's awesome your taking the time to tidy this motor up! Your efforts are there own reward! Top notch Mate :D

I can totally see profit!

Your inspiring me to find out how much a new radio cage / dash board centre part is cuz mines got a fair few scratches down the passenger side.

(Not the most robust if interiors, are they.. ironically, the biscuit colour version of the Fabia interior doesn't show the scratches and marks anywhere near as much as the black)

One teeny tiny suggestion though, for the engine bay.. A new coolant header tank is around £12... It's all pristine and white and would finish of your clean up to a tee!

  • Author

Nice one, that's handy to know about the coolant bottle.

I'm not bothered about profit. I just want to get it sorted and drive the car. Main things at the minute are the wishbone, headlight and upper intercooler pipe.

So here's my list of stuff left to do.

New drivers side wishbone

New upper intercooler pipe

New wishbone and console bushes for drivers side

EGR delete (currently being made by a mate)

Refit the boot carpet (getting cleaned)

Replace front and rear badges at some stage

Fit new number plates

Probably fit new Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades

Parts to arrive from Vrs-D1ck (can't believe that's censored...lol)

Drivers side door seal

Drivers side headlight

Drivers side arch liner

Still to be confirmed: battery box top, standard air intake pipe, and tweeter cover from drivers side rear door.

Fit these new clips and stick the rear hatch plastic back on.

Are those clips metal or plastic? I could do with re-fitting my boot plastics because after getting rear ended they've never sat quite right and I'm convinced it's just because the body shop didn't take their time refitting (I was waiting on it... and they'd already had to redo the bumper).. a couple a little rattles that I suspect are the metal clips loose in the holes rather than in the plastic.

  • Author

Yes they're metal. Skoda obviously designed them never to be taken out or refitted again. When the plastic is getting put back on the clips don't seem to line up anywhere near the holes. My clips were bent and not clipped in and a couple were rattling in the plastic too. That's why I decided to take it off.

I also took the boot switch out last night and the metal plate in it was all rusted up and a bit of the plastic was also broken. I have it cleaned up and installed back in so it seems to work ok but it would be good to replace it at some stage.

  • Author

OK so I just got a couple more bits sorted.

Cupra console bushes are on the way. (because they were half the price of poly bushes)

And I sourced a wishbone with a brand new oem bush on the front.

Total cost, about £55 delivered to my door so I'm happy enough. I just couldn't be bothered waiting or looking for parts any longer.

I hope to have them in a couple of days.

  • Author

Upper intercooler pipe and fittings cleaned up and refitted last night and the car seems to be holding boost ok, and pipes are staying on. I have a new upper intercooler pipe on the way anyway just in case. I don't have much confidence in the one that's in because of a little bit of damage on it.

And I fitted the new clips into the rear hatch panel and refitted it with the help of a mate. What a nightmare that thing is to get on. But got it sorted in the end and it's staying on I hope.
