HID KITS

Featured Replies

Hi all, got my eyes on a HID kit for my car, just wondering where you got them off? and how easy you would say they are too fit?

there are quite a few topics on these, have you tried the search? It always seems to open up a can of worms too because the headlights arent made for them (have no projectors, washers and auto level sensor). There was an article on the one show tonight about the legality and glare from xenons.

Saying this, ive just fitted OE xenons, and i love them!

To answer your question though, www.hidsdirect or www.hid4u seem to be popular places. :)

I used search but its just full of are they legal or not, just wanted a link to buy and how easy to fit

cant see it being that hard to fit. headlamps will have to come out. i loosened off the two bumper torq's in the bonnet/grille area and got the headlights out without removing the bumper. Its tight, but they will come out. 2 torq's go through the slam panel into the lights and 1 torq is low down, the bottom of the headlight and 1 10mm which you will see at the front behind where the grill goes. Should really be a 2-3 hr job, maybe 4 if your unsure when it comes to working on cars.

Something like that then if you must get them (not a fan, but that's not what you're asking so. . . )

Colourwise - lower the better really - 4.3k is OEM, 6k is about as blue as I'd want to go personally.

Fitting wise - not sure as I never fitted them to my Fabia. Think the main things are locating the ballasts (the metal boxes) and feeding the wires into the headlight which I mean entails cutting a bit of the back cover of the light.

Or would it better/easier just to change the bulbs?

Better changing bulbs IMO. With the new proposed MoT stuff, likely to be more 'future proof' too.

Any recommendation on bulbs mate?

Sorry about all the questions

No worries.

I had Philips +80% or something. Was happy with them, nice and white and bright. There's +100% too now I think, but never tried them. General reviews of the Osram Nightbreakers are that they don't last as long as the Philips. Think Ring bulbs are also getting good press atm.

Not much help I know, but not needed bulbs for a while now - sorry!

I had a set in my old Ibiza - easy to fit (just had to cut a hole in the panel on the back of the lights) and I velcro'd the ballasts in a safe place in the engine bay. Took about 45mins IIRC. Wouldn't bother again though - as a driver I thought that they were brilliant, but they do blind other drivers. Just get some good quality regular bulbs - as a freedom member, there is a supplier who offers a discount in the freedom area...

I'd go for those ^ if I wanted output, or yours if I wanted a bit of a blue tint. A note to remember - the higher the +%age the shorter life (as a rough guide).

Not too sure just how blue the ones you posted are though - might be worth googling.
