New vRS Rattling Noise

Featured Replies

Hi all,

only done 450 miles in my new car and I'm loving it. Only thing is I can hear a rattling noise coming from behind the steering wheel (as you might have guessed from the title). It's quite a high pitched rattle, a bit like the sound rick krispies make if that helps haha. Any ideas what it could be?

Had this noise on mine from new & had it fixed under warranty. Can't remember what it was now but it hasn't come back.

Awesome (well not awesome, but I'm glad it seems to be a no hassle problem). I'll phone Skoda tomorrow and get it booked in then. It only started today at the 400 mile mark unless my radio just drowned it out.

got the same too, its the plastic surround round the instrument cluster, mine has just stopped all of a sudden though

Any ideas what it could be?

I think one should be prepared for various noises as the season changes and the temperature causes different expansion in different materials.

Guys, did anyone work out what the issue was? My wife's Monte Carlo is suffering with something very similar but when she took it to the dealer's the noise wasn't there so they couldn't do anything about it. I've just got home & apparently the noise is back again, but not all the while. Would be great if one of you could recall what fixed it so we can give them a helping hand - working in the retail dealership industry (agricultural, not automotive) I empathise with anyone trying to diagnose & cure intermittent faults, let alone intermittent rattles/sueaks! Thanks guys.

It's just down to expansion and then shrinkage due to temperatures fluctuating this then will leave a slight gap between the retaining bolts and screws very difficult to remedy, they just not built the same anymore quality control and very cheap plastics

Give the plastic sourrounding the instrument cluster a firm push. My wifes roomster hade a rattle at certain RPMs, it was the plastic that had came loose due to temp variations. Gave it a good push and the rattling dissapered. Cheap enough to try =)

+1 on this. I had a rattle from the dash above about 30mph. A good push on the surround and something clicked into place. Not heard a noise since.
