Private number plate transfer - how long?

Featured Replies

Providing a dealer takes all of the necessary paperwork etc.to the local DVLA office, then how long does it normally take for the transfer of personalised plates to be completed and assigned to a brand new car ? This is for a straight transfer and not for one where it has been placed on retention earlier.

Cheers, be glad to hear of your experiences.

In theory, if they take the paperwork for both cars down to the DVLA office, i think i can be done on the spot.

I know if you take the paperwork for a plate on retention to a DVLA office, you can change the plate on the spot, so i don't see why a transfer isn't the same, provided the paperwork is all correct.

I thought that 'on the spot transactions' at local DVLA offices ceased a while back?

Eerrmmm, 3 days in my case, just last week.

It's a case of 'transfer the plate tomorrow and I'll buy the car' Sorted.

if the dealer is willing to send a bod to the nearest dvla transfer office ( leeds in my case ) and hang about for a couple of hours. job done.

Providing you have all the relevant documentation of course.

transfer from one to the other, 1 week, log book back the week after. If on retention and have all the paper work, that can be done on the spot, log book to follow

I deal with Sheffield dvla always been very good.

Hi. Plate on retention. Transferred it to my new car yesterday in Peterborough. Time in the office was 15 minutes.
