VRS cutting out?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've recently brought a damaged VRS, and have not as of yet had it repaired, but been in contact with the previous owner about history etc... and on a good and good bad note told me a problem he had with the car?

He states that when the car went under half a tank the car used to cut out/stall? and then would take a while to start, but would eventually start...

apparently its meant to be a common fault, which no one can work out? I couldn't find any info on this..

Also said the diesel pump has been changed?

Also on start up there is a fair bit of smoke and a strong smell of something burning possibly diesel, any ideas on this? By strong i mean if your there for a few minutes it could make you go dizzy on a hot day.

Any ideas on this?

clear all your breather pipes to the tank and make sure your return line and fuel cooler isn't damaged.

I would also replace the fuel filter which could be choking the fuel supply to the engine.

Also give the car a full service (air filter, oil filter, pollen filter, plugs etc) that way you can examine the parts yourself to see how recently the last service was done. Also if you start from a clean slate it makes things easier to troubleshoot any further problems.

HTH...

I think the car has been serviced recently, but I will definitely do it again..

And I will also clear the pipes, wheres the fuel cooler located?

Any other ideas?

The fuel filter won't really affect flow like that because it's such a high pressure system unless your filter got waxed up during a really cold spell.

Get the car scanned first and see if you have any faulty temp sensors.

Fuel cooler is on the return line under the drivers side of the car.
