Fault with CD changer in Octy RS

Featured Replies

When I change to CD on my *cough* lovely Symphony head unit it displays the word 'Mechanic' , I am going to make a wild stab in the dark here and assume this means some form of fault with the CD changer, anyone confirm this? Radio and tape player are fine.

I feel a warrenty claim coming on.

You could try taking the cd cartridge out and replacing it to see if that cures it? I take it it has worked before ?

That would mean going outside and running the risk of being sandblasted by the horizontal hail which is currently affecting NW Dartmoor

Seriously, I checked the changer earlier and couldn't see anything wrong, although to be honest over the last few days I had started to notice an increase in 'skipping' . I wondor if I can get them to change it for a decent one :D

Nice blue sky here :D (Essex)

If it came up with 'Mechanic' after previously working and you hadn't changed any of the CDs in the meantime then it sounds like it's knackered then. If, on the other hand, it failed after changing some of the CDs then I would double check that the cd cartridge is in the right way round. I only mention this because I believe it is possible to put it in the wrong way ( :o ), and I'd hate for you to go to the dealer and say it's broken and them to say in a smug voice "Well sir, if you put the cartridge in the right way then it will work"

Nope, not changed any CD's recently, basically yesterday it worked and today it doesn't :( . Phone call to the dealer tomorrow I think.

I've had that message before. I seem to remember it went again, and I put it down to a bit of condensation.

Aye...agree with Si....condensation.

I've had this a few times on the last one. I popped into the dealer and mentioned it, he "knew" about it and offered to fix it if it got worse. But I sold the car so I don't know if it did get worse, or if it was as above, simply condensation.

I had my changer unit replaced under warranty yesterday. The message I was getting was "SURFACE"...
