Diesel Injectors - What are the connections

Featured Replies

Whilst doing some investigation work on my sisters car she asked a question that I fully could not answer and hoping someone here may be able to.

The injectors on the Felica have 3 pipe connections. The main middle one being the fuel input and then the 2 on each side. I believe these are fuel return pipes.

Are these omnidirectional, such as fuel can go both ways. If not are they supposed to be on a certain way and if so how do you find out.

Also I noticed that on the fuel line into the pump system there is a something like a bleed nipple on one (can not rember which one though) Should this be covered.

Whilst trying to sort the problem I am beginning to think that air is getting into the fuel system somewhere as it struggles to start even from cold. This may of course be also causing issues with the warm starting she is getting.

I will get to the bottom of the problem if its the last thing I do.

On my SEAT (an AHU engine IIRC), the two connections are joined together inside the injector, so that you can daisy-chain the fuel returns together. One end of the chain has a rubber blob on it preventing fuel from spurting out, the other end is a fuel line back towards the tank. The 4 injectors are then connected to each other with small lengths of fuel line.

I've had trouble starting my car when the rubber blob doesn't quite seal the hole - a new rubber blob was the fix.

yeah they are just leak back pipes, they are not fuel return pipes as such, they are just daisy chained together and can be connected either way round
