Is it Possible to Remove Felicia Fun Fibreglass Sills?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just taken my New (to me) Felicia Fun PickUp for an MOT it Failed on a Few Bits but Most Importantly Rust on Sills

So Just wondering if anyone know of a way to remove the Fibreglass Skirt Sills without trashing them completely.

Or Should I get Shot of it..?

Please and Thank You.... in Advance.

they do come off but they are bonded on with obnoxious glue, they often break up when you prize them off, try with a piece of fishing wire to cut through the glue

Thanks TeflonTom

Just had a Quick Look, I'm presuming you mean to work from one end to the Other slowly using Fishing Wire as a Kind of Saw?

Looks a Right Nightmare !

Thankyou

mine failed on rust on sills at the rear last november. what a pain in the arse it is to remove the covers. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REMOVE WITH OUT DAMAGING. best way to do it is cut the underside and pull the whole sideskirt upwards seems to break some of the glue off. you will have to lever the ends from underneath the arch covers and then the top where the door closes is the part that seems to have the most glue on and its a **** to get off. i did it with loads of swearing, scrapers and levers and a mallet and it came off, but damaged the top in the process, but can easily repair with a bit of fiberglassing (on my to do list)

heat from a heat gun/hairdrier didnt really work just melts the fiberglass btw. oh and wire does cut thru glue because the sill is cuvred.

also just a note, removing these covers will most proberly reveal alot more welding to be done. on mine i had to repair from the edge of the doors, right back to the end of the sills. :'(

i havent glued them back on, i have fixed with screws underneath, alot better. :smirk:

if you give it a go and give up let me know and i might be able to lend a hand as im also in devon.

good luck

A slight variation on Tom's suggestion was made in the past: use a guitar string to cut them off. ;)

hi

How about using one of those wire saw things with the rings at each end, looks like something for killing people and don't know if you can still get them. Just checked google they are sometimes called Commando wire saw, plenty on Ebay for under £5. if thats too heavy try cheese wire. Hope it's a long time before I need to do that.

Cheers

Yeah, I would try getting hold of the wire saws that windscreen fitters use, that should do the trick?

Just seen your advert, wondered if you have a towbar available for the Skoda Fun that you are breaking? - the type that hinges down so that it doesn’t damage the tailgate when you open it

Cheers.
