Stiffen me up!

Featured Replies

Please excuse the thread title but it's the day of the Royal Wedding and I am at work, so figured i needed some alone time... (that just makes it sound worse) anyway, let's get down to business.

I have a Felicia, 1.3Mpi 90k on the clock and she's becoming a bit of a project... originally intended as a daily driver while the fabia is having work done, little bits have slowly started happening, new clutch 1K ago, 40mm lowering springs (cheapo ebay purchase) a few fog lights, tints here and there and one or two stickers... I have purchased new wheels but will keep them a secret until they have been re furbished and are sitting pretty on the car itself... then i will let the pictures do the talking.

My question to you experts though is chassis related, recently when turning on hard lock, or going over bumps there is quite a knocking sound coming from the right (drivers side) front wheelarch, firstly, does anyone know what this could be? i am assuming a bush of somekind or similar... secondly, finding OEM spares for me is not to difficult (i work in a Skoda dealership) however, are there any uprated bushes out there? My fabia was fully poly bushed and it made a world of differance, where can i get powerflex (or similar) bushes for the car? We're talking wishbones, top mounts, rear arm, front arms and everything in between, to be honest i would love to get it fully poly bushed but can't find anything anywhere. Any help is much apprechiated and i will post pics of the car itself when the wheels are done.

Thanks guys and hope you have all had a good easter and are enjoying the bank holidays at the moment.

i'm glad i'm not the pnly one who couldn't give two shining ****s about the royal wedding...

anywho, there is no poly bushes available for a felicia, i've searched high and low for them and they just don't exist..

with your right hand knocking problem, is that a repeated knocking in time with the wheel or just a single knock when you turn?

i'm glad i'm not the pnly one who couldn't give two shining ****s about the royal wedding...

I'm in on those sentiments too. Keeps raining here, so am playing Portal for a while.

Tom,

It's a single knock when going over a bump, turning the wheel or both at the same time, sounds like it might be top mounts, but i had the struts out to change springs and the top mounts seemed fine then (2 weeks ago). That is a shame about poly bushes, looks like just OEM ones will have to do... Would the addition of an ARB help the stiffness? and if so how easy are they to get hold of and fit? Front and rear...

Thanks again guys

p.s... Wedding on TV at work, sounds more like a funeral from where i'm sitting!

the front arb and the associated bushes and fittings are still available from skoda dealer, there is a 20mm one that the cars have and a 22mm one from the cube van/caddy pickup, both will fit on the pickup so long as you use the corresponding sized inner bushes...

that knock will be either the lower balljoint of the top mount

i am tempted by a rear arb, i think i saw some neuspeed items on ebay.... i just need to decided wheather it's worth the effort and money.

i'm not bothered by the front arb, just the rear to reduce understeer and make the handling a pinch more neutral

the 1.6 models have a rear arb as standard sonner me old chumly

i think Superflex will take custom orders on Poly bushes still, minimum order value is about £200 and they charge a 35% loading on there premiums for non-standard production items,

it was about 1yr ago when i was trying to get poly bushes for a 914 prosche, i contacted a local motorbike factors specialist and they managed to get some from superflex special order but with a whopping 6 week lead time,

i paid a fixed price charge to the motorbike factors company then dealt with superflex directly.

the costs where about a third higher than what u would normally pay, but it wasn't my money so i didn't care.

try contacting superflex directly, the number i have for them doesn't work... let me know if u get hold of them

yes i recall you telling me that a little while back, but the neuspeed ones are the uprated ones that are advertised for the caddy 9u i think and are 22mm thick, it's probs not worth the money yet anyway, plenty of other things to do to the car first

Thanks for the responses guys, taking it all on board and I may even get in contact with superflex (see if they'll do a group buy?) What else can i do to stiffen the suspension up? i know it's never going to be a sports car but i like my corners flat. With the fabia it was easy, bolt on coilovers here, uprated bushes there and a few arbs for good measure, what are the best things to do to stiffen the chassis on a felicia? if i'm fixing the front top mounts, and ball joint then i may as well get other things done too.

Cheers,

- Duggie.

i've already done all the legwork with superflex and bascially they aren't interested in manufacturing any, there isn't enough interested in them
