Calling all midlands peeps, Alloy refurb

Featured Replies

I really need to get the standard alloys refurbed as they have a case of the pickles about them, can anyone from the midlands more nottingham/derby that does good work on refurbed wheels, pictures would also be smashing

Thank you

City powder coaters in brum mate.

If they are bad and need doing properly, I would agree with the first poster. The Wheel Specialist in Birmingham are worth the trip. The previous owner had my alloys done there before I bought the car, and they are excellent.

If it's just a touch up, I work in Derby opposite a prestige repair place that's the approved crash repairer for Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley etc. They have a mobile guy that comes round to do the alloys - no first hand experience of him myself, but I know he must be good if they use him on all the supercars... I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but I will keep my eyes open at work.

A1 Wheels in Wolverhampton are pretty good.

Total wheel works in Nottingham brilliant. I've used 4 times great finish and great service

how much did it cost Tas for the gun metal refurb on the fabia they look great and how long do they take

I think he charges £50 a wheel. Powder coated. I just left my car Thursday night picked up Saturday afternoon.

But if your taking wheels only he might turn them around quicker he did my gloss black and my yellow lips in a day

i've just had mine done at city powdercoaters in Birmingham, finish was very good and £20 per wheel.

At that price I guess painted?

I'm not a fan of paint it flakes to easy with the slightest touch

No they powdercoat them (the clue is in their name :giggle: ) they then lacquer them over the top, providing the wheel are not curbed then they do a good job, but @ £20 a wheel they cannot afford to spend time filling any marks left in the alloys after they have been blasted.

Here is the thread I commented on last year when I had my winter wheels done

This is one of the better wheels that had no marks in, the others are certainly not bad and you can only (just about) see any marks when you clean them, but if you want an absolute flawless finish then you are going to need to pay more, but @ £100 for 5 wheels to be done (which were very badly corroded as they had been stored out in the elements for a few years - they are 12 year old genuine Audi wheels) I am happy with the results, they also do the WHOLE wheel, not just the bits you see.

Forgot to say that any flaky paint is all down to the preparation before the paint was applied (unless he was a bit brutal with the jet wash - but even then with a correctly prepared surface this shouldn't happen)

Ohhh that explains the cheap price mine are always fully refurbed and every wheel is spotless better than factory condition IMO. But again I think the rule applies you get what you pay for. But for me it would be pointless spending money driving to brum to get it done to then have to drive back etc adding a extra £80 to the price.

Full agree (to a point) that you get what you pay for, but likewise for either winter wheels or to sell a car they are ideal.

Oh yeah totally agree on that point.

anybody know any decent powdercoaters in the west midlands area?

It would be worth asking City Powedercoaters (Birmingham) if they will prepare the wheel to a perfect finish (at a slightly higher price) as the finish is very good.

Thanks everyone for your replys,

No the wheels arnt massively terrible just one slightly curbed and the rest starting to a pickle a little.

But I like Tas's recommandation much nearer to home and there work looks good

thanks tas i thnik ill wait for my holidays so theres no rush taking them in

Derwent enamelers in derby.

£10 a wheel.

You have to drop them off with no tyre though, and fill them in yourself.

I used Total Wheel Works in Colwick too on my old Leon Cupra, they did a fantastic job.

Car was black with full black leather interior so I had the wheels done anthracite and also had the brake calipers done red and two new tyres on at the same time.

Can't remember exact price but £50 a corner for the shotblasting and powdercoating does ring a bell. Got pictures but don't know how to upload... :S

They only had the car for a few days, despite being busy. Apparently they do bits and bobs for main dealers like Sytners so must be trusted I guess...

I can't really fairly comment on powdercoating vs painting cos I've only had the former but the wheels looked fantastic, almost metallic. They told me that powdercoating also resists brake dust better, don't know if true or not in long run but they did keep much cleaner than normal wheels while I had it
