Featured Replies

Here it finally is:

1.2 TSI DSG7 Elegance with 3-spoke leather steering wheel, MDI and tinted rear windows. The order was placed in early january, so it took less than 4 months from order to delivery!

Nice

Sunset glass and black roof rails really do transform the Roomy.

Enjoy!

Thanks!

Actually the rear windows are alot darker than Sunset. Check My link for more detail

Looks good, you are a lucky owner, at least there is hope for the rest of us sitting in the queue :)

Congratulations! I got the same car in the same warm colour (no DSG though) 15 days ago. In Italy it took 2 months and a half for the shipment. I consider myself lucky, compared to others' delivery times ;-)

I am sure you will be satisfied. A lot of space, pleasant and frugal engine, sound and comfortable behaviour on the road. Decently built, too.

My wife and my baby daughter particularly appreciate the big room in the back, with large and tinted limo-like windows, space for any props and good air circulation in any weather, thanks to the high roof.

As a driver I like the fact it feels like driving a normal hatchback, but with the advantage of a slightly higher seat position. I have been driving VWs in the past years and I feel definitely home in the Roomy. No frills no thrills, just the essential controls. Form follows function, as Gropius would put it :-)

The only cons I have found are that the front seats are a bit narrow, that there is a bit of wind and road noise at motorway speeds and that front-sidewindows feel a bit narrow the first days . By the way, nobody is perfect and I bought no S class Mercedes (neither I payed its price...).

Let us know your impressions about the DSG, there are very few here.

Thanks!

I have been driving with the same engine-gearbox combo (1.2 TSI 105 + DSG7) for around 10 months in our Yeti, and I am totally satisfied with the auto gearbox. Initially I had some issues when starting from standstill, but once I got to know the gearbox logic (or the other way round) the DSG did a great job. In slippery conditions it was even more exact on applying power than I could be with a manual gearbox. It favors high gears and low revs (good for economy), but if needed it quickly changes down and gives the optimum balance between economy and power for all situations. I have used the S mode and manual changing very little because I feel that the gearbox gets it right anyway. The only case when the gearbox is a bit slow is when almost stopping totally, and the driving away again.

These comments apply to the Yeti, but after 200 km of driving in a Roomster the feelings are the same.

I did some small modifications with the VCDS also:

- dial staging

- cruise control speed display

See My link for more details and howto

Have you found anything about the audio system? I would like to control the volume level...without buying the steering wheel controls! :giggle:

I think it's eaasier to control the volume from the stereo set than from a lap held computer :giggle::rofl::p

Actually I don't really understand what you are asking - but then I might not be supposed to B)

Well, I may be taking something for granted...let me explain:

if your car fits a Swing (or Bolero and Amundsen, I suppose) Radio + MaxiDot, you can have access to some radio and player data via Maxidot. Consequently, you can select stations or tracks by operating the rocker switch on the wipers' right lever. This is a halfway implementation, I think, without a volume control, and not that useful.

Therefore my question, if there is a hidden volume control function to be activated via VCDS. Just a curiosity.

But then, who would buy the multifunction steering wheel, for Radio control only purposes? I did not, and I do not miss it. I basically agree with you, I am satisfied with the 'usual' big radio buttons emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Hi!

Then I understand. Im much too interested in the car's data (consumption, range etc) to ever have used the radio via the MaxiDot, and did not even know that this type of functionality exists. One thing that might be possible is to replace the station/track selection with volume control, but I can't tell for sure if it's possible. There aren't too many other buttons available ;)

I actually bought the multifunction steering wheel (did not know that the MaxiDot controls weren't there at that time), and I use the radio control (especially volume control) A LOT. I also got the 3-spoke leather steering wheel while I was at it, a very nice one!

Currently also the Central electronics module is totally undocumented by Ross-Tech, so I have no idea of what might be possible there. I sent them a mail already with what I have found out, but no response so far.

VAG Code 6R7-937-087-H if there's anyone out there that has some more information on this module. There are lots of coding to be done, but until I get the info on what is what I will not touch those.

More positive comments, I had forgotten just how spacios the roomie is:

Today I had to transport a bunch, 15 pairs or so) of old skis (yes, the thing you tie to your feet and slide around in snow in) and some miscellanious stuff to a recycling station. To get the long skis in (~2 meters, around 7 feet) I had to remove the right side rear seat (the car being a LHD) along with the childs seat strapped to it and fold the front seat backwards (still no full folding front seat emoticon-0106-crying.gif ). I got the skis in in the side of the car, the misc stuff in the boot, the removed rear seat in the floorwell behind the drivers seat, and the removed childs seat on top. I even still had another childs seat mounted behind the driver. All this done in just a few minutes and all spare items with me as well. Once the car was emptied I returned everything to its original position, and the transport van was back to a family car again. That's versatility if I ever saw some

Unfortunately I was too stressed to remember to take a pic (or two) of the car when loaded :(

On a side note : I ordered a set of these to proctect the door steps from climbing kids - I'll post some pictures once I get them installed
