Mirror adjustment

Collected my SM today (December 13th order) and had a merry couple of hours setting up seat/mirror memory settings - but one action has defeated me to date. When trying to set up the nearside mirror to "reverse" position I am engaging reverse gear and adjusting the mirror as per the manual but I seem to end up with the mirror going up instead of down when I engage reverse and it does not return to normal when I select neutral. What am I doing wrong...?
