Help! Ultrasonics setting off alarm all the time.

Featured Replies

Three weeks ago I bought a secondhand 2000 Fabia DSi. The alarm is triggered regularly by traffic on the street (bit of a rat-run) and p*ss*ng off the neighbours. I took it to a dealership garage and they told me

1) not possible to disable the car alarm system

2) when the mechanic checked the fuse box had been moved and the ultrasonic sensor box was missing/not in the expected location

3) there are no fault codes for the alarm on the car computer

4) the alarm didn't trigger while at the garage

5) the mechanic removed the interior light in case it was drawing power that was triggering the alarm

6) they would check with Skoda about disabling the alarm, but otherwise they couldn't see there was a problem.

Within half an hour of being home, the alarm was triggered by passing traffic - I heard the truck rattle down the street and sure enough the alarm went off (I believe this indicates that there are ultrasonics somewhere).

I'd like to

1) disable the alarm or

2) disable/remove ultrasonics or

3) reduce sensitivity on ultrasonics.

I am going to chase up the garage at least to get the internal light back. Meanwhile, I was wondering if there was anyone out there with some suggestions. If I can't get this fixed, I probably have the sell the car or move :-(.

NB I'm a physicist so I can understand the mechanical/electrical issues but I don't have the practical skills, so this is probably a garage job - Skoda/my independent service & MOT guy/electrician?

Any help gratefully received

It

is possible to reduce the sensitivity of the sensor but you would need vag-com

Thanks for the pointer. I suspect that said kit should be part of/equivalent to the diagnostics gear used by the techs at the Skoda garage? Still it is good to know that I'm not chasing something impossible.

May be I should take the car to a different Skoda garage - I'm in Reading, recommendations anyone?

Cheers

Have a look on the Vag-Com register on this forum.

You might have to give a small donation

You can disable the interior sensor with vag com, on the sensor it's self it has a plus, and minus setting could be worth trying that.

Had same problem with my Fabia, neighbours car (diesel) was tripping my car alarm on, with my car still in the bloody concrete walled garage (go figure)!!!!

Spoke to dealership..best suggestion....remove the alarm horn, everybody ignores these anyway!!! So under car and unplug horn (between fuel tank and rear beam axle) and electrial taped/heatshrunk covered the plug on the wiring loom on car, and strapped it to the mounting bracket for the horn!! No more problems, no lights on dash, and if you go into the alarm ecu it will always show the fault code for "can not communicate with horn". But i've had this running like this for 7years now ok!!
