Headunit advice

Featured Replies

I came to fit my new headunit and amp/sub at the weekend and i had not a lot of success. I have fitted the sub, run the power cable to the back and fitted the lighting. However, the remote cable, sound cable and headunit are not in. Do i need an adapter for the skoda wiring to go in the pioneer headunit? The wiring i have got is a load of magumby that would require me snipping wires!!! :thumbdwn:

If you have a pioneer head unit, you'll need to swap the permanent 12V and switched 12V cables over. Do this by swapping the yellow and red wires. There should bullet connectors between the head unit end and the ISO socket end so you don't have to snip wires.

The remote is the striped white / blue wire. This needs to go from the head unit to the amp in question. The remote just sends a 12V feed to the amp when the head unit is on to start it up. You can ensure the amp is wired / working ok by connecting a small bit of wire between the 12V feed and the remote wire.

HTH :)

Sorry, excuse my ignorance. But do i need to buy an adaptor or just pull a couple of wires out of the existing plus and re-arrange them???

You don't need an adaptor. The adaptor just alloys you to switch some wires over. You can do this with the pioneer loom as it provides bullet connectors allowing you to switch the wires over.

I didn't use one for my Pionner head unit. Just swap the yellow and red power wires over using the bullet connectors and you should be having music to your ears :)

I'd always try and avoid the adaptor: it can get pretty crowded at the back if you then add other boxes of electronics ;)

Thanks for the info, when i recieved my headunit the wires that came wihth it had a white plug at one end but not at the other, just wires. My mate said i should go into halfords and get them to order some new adaptors from Pioneer for me that should have come with the unit. Is this right?

Is this a 2nd hand unit, sounds like the hu wiring loom has been butchered,

Hmm. Could you take a photo of the pioneer wiring loom you have?

May help :)

I bought the unit of ebay, it was advertised as brand new. What kind of position am i in???

Hmm. Which model of Pioneed HU did you get?

The pic shows the correct lead, but it is unterminated, i.e. it doesn't have the 2 ISO blocks at the other end that you would need to connect to the car stereo's wiring loom.

I can't find a picture of the extra adaptop you need at the moment :( Basically, you need a female double ISO block to individual wires with no connectors at the end. You'd need to crimp the wires of the ISO block to the wires at the end of the wiring loom you have at the moment.

However, Pionner normally supply their wiring looms with the ISO blocks at the other end, which wouldn't require you to get the ISO block end if you see what I mean.

Every Pionner HU I've ever had had the ISO block at the end of the lead, so I'd say you've got a non standard Pioneer wiring loom (only half there requiring you to buy the extra wiring bit with the ISO blocks).

P.S. Why have autoleads gone for a flash site removing all products and pictures from their catalogue

What you need is one of these but with a female ISO connector and not male as shown in the picture

i got the DEh p7600MP model,

OK, the head unit you have should have come with an ISO-terminated wiring loom which it obviously hasn't.

You could get back to the ebay seller and ask him. You may have a US head unit which may come with a different wiring loom.

If you have the manual, it's worth checking whether you have this page in it as it shows an normal Pioneer wiring loom. If you have exactly that page in the manual, then clearly the cable supplied does not match that of the manual, and you should ask the ebayer to supply you with the correct lead.

Good luck :)

If it's a US model is the radio going to work properly?

I have contacted the seller, he says it is a european model, will work in GB.

My friend has also said a universal adapter from halfords will do the trick hunky dorey! <-- is he right?

Hmm could be. The best thing is just to go to Halfords and see for yourself.

Just found a pdf version of the installation manual for your deh-p7400mp here (650kB) and the operating instructions here (1.1MB):D
