Annoying noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

Im not sure if this has been covered before, but im hoping someone can help.

Recently my VRS Estate has developed a loudish knocking/tapping from the front drivers door. It sounds like a ratchet-socket being tapped onto the frame of the door. Ive had the door card off and cannot see anything obvious, i was hoping that it would be something simple! I checked all nuts and bolts whilst I was there just incase!

It seems to occur when I acellerate hard, or when going over bumps. I cant find any play in the hinges, although all i did was to see if the door would move up or down when open, and the door shuts securely, and wont move once shut. It also does it when the doors are locked or unlocked.

Has anyone else experienced this and fixed it, its driving me nuts!

Thanks

Rob

ARB noise due to worn bushes?

ARB noise due to worn bushes?

It could also be the dogbone mount. Both knock on the subframe and the noise can be difficult to pinpoint.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. My front arb bushes are probably due to be replaced (i seem to do them as a matter of course before each MOT!) and the dogbone was replaced about 6 months ago with a powerflex bush. Im pretty sure its something in the door, ive tried to pinpoint it as much as I can whilst driving, and seems to be around the latch area?

Thanks

Rob

tried moving the latch at all?? loose bolt maybe?

If you think it's at the rear of the door, then check...

the 2 M8 spline bolts that hold the lock in are tight.

the locator stud and the stud socket are still present. Compare to other door.

try trapping some rubber tubing in the door to see if the noise goes away.

yank the seatbelt so that it locks. Does the noise go away?

...the door seems tight when it shuts and doesnt move if I push or pull it, should I bring the latch in the pillar in towards the car a little? Im presuming loosen a little then a gentle tap to nudge it in?

Ive checked and the brass looking stud is still in the bottom of the door, the hole that it goes in seems to have a rubber bung type thing there, but ill check it all again, and check the bolts too...

Thanks for all the advise, ill post back and let you know...

Thanks

Rob

Could it be a loose screw which holds the window glass guide rails, and thus the motor assembly is banging? That would be somewhat lower down in the door though. Behind the door release handle is just a single screw for aiding the holding of the door card on.
