I want one! Scoobie RA.. fooking fast.

Featured Replies

Just taken our newest employee out onto the airfield for a little run on the taxi-way. He's got a US import Impreza Type RA with a few little mods which, take it to either 280, 380 or 450 bhp depending on the selected map/fuel.

On the 380 map we ran today I have to say that it is bloody fast, first gear was selected for around 1.5 seconds I would think. It forces you back into the seat at every gear change, no noticable turbo lag what so ever.

A truely amazingly fast car.

I want one.

oh..........it got a 10.25 second 1/4 mile incase you're wondering (timed on my wrist watch) and a speed of 146 over 1 1/4 mile.

Can we all come round and have a go on the taxiway?? :D

Excellent  What's he done to it to get it to those figures? :D

Is that Upper Heyford?

I remember seeing some nice cars on that airfield. Skylines, Aston Martin even the Nissan Touring Car boys used to do shakedowns there also.

It most certainally is Upper Heyford.

There were actually some Formula Renault boys up there yesterday who got a bit ****y when we overtook them at 130 :D

If this is really true then it must have a 2.5l block as the starting point (US Spec you say?) and most of the internals must have been seriously uprated, as must the clutch and gearbox.

I dont know of any maps that are switchable 3 ways - there simply isnt the memory space on the ECU - so the only way to achieve that is via re-uploading the map ? Or replacing the ECU (still never heard of an ECU that can take 3 maps concurrently)

Give us some more info Goochie - and did you ever do the 450bhp run ?

more like taxi in the way ..... :sofahide:

Only 6 miles more on the clock than you got out of mine in the time...

Going to be cheaky and say transmission losses...however having being a passenger in a 22B I can say and agree that these things are mental and a step above the "normal modified scoob"

...we really need to get some timing euquipment for you Phil ;)

sounds fab! i need more power :(

The big problem with the standard RA is that the gearbox ratios are quite closely stacked for very rapid acceleration and a relatively low top speed. I guess this is down to it being the base car for rally teams where top speed doesn't need to be high. :D

I went out in one with an experienced driver who was using the diff locks and the handling was phenomenal compared to a standard one, especially in the wet!

Not really a practical day to day car though ;)

Chris

Same with the Type - R - my first scoob. Gear ratios incredibly short. Mastering the DCCD is a black art that i suspect most will never get near to. I could make use of it but far from mastered it...

Blimey this thread is ancient LOL! the guy inquestion has now left the company.

Partly to do with his preference to eating chocloate over working, I think
