Adjusting factory xenons for use on the continent

Featured Replies

I'm sure I've asked this (or at least seen the answer to my query somewhere), but the search function seems unable to find any trace of such a question.

Does anyone know how to adjust the factory xenon units on the mk1 for use on the continent, please? On my mk2, it was a simple lever you flicked over . . . is it as simple as that on the mk1s? I don't think the stick on patches work for projector lens headlights . . .

Cheers.

Not sure on the Mk1 I'm afraid Rob. But for the record, I got the Skoda continental headlamp protectors for my xenon-equipped projector headlight Fabia, and they worked fine and sent the beam across to the wrong side of the road without problem :)

And as they were just really a black square on the headlamp protector, I don't see why something similar could be done on the Octy.

Steve

P.S. will you be needing any screenwash for your continental jaunt? ;)

Cheers Steve. Screenwash . . . I have half a litre left which will probably do, it's a case of if there's a realestate charge being placed on my future supplies. :giggle:

As far as I recall there is no switch. Can't see one on this photo either which is the back of my drivers side xenon:

I used a Halfords kit on mine when I went to France and had no issues.

If it's possible in the Mk1 and anything like the Mk2 unit, the lever is inside the headlamp unit:

There is a little lever on the inside of the lamp that moves a cover over the RHD kick up and gives a flat beam. I think that it is fairly easy to see once you remove the lamp and rear cover.

It tells you how to do this in the haynes manual if you have one.

In the end I didn't have time to remove the headlights, so I've fitted some 'Eurolite' converters to the lights. It was a bit hit and miss but it's a significant improvement, although probably not quite perfect. Not looking forwards to trying to get them off when I get back - the glue seemed pretty powerful!
