Odd tyre wear stopped on it's own?

Featured Replies

My front passenger wheel was wearing odd... the out side shoulder was wearing just a lil quicker than the rest of the tread.

It's kinda stopped, though.... The inside shoulder is catching up the out side shoulder and the whole tyre is now leveling out again?

I haven't had it aligned (though it'll be done again anyway on Thursday at the Shark Meet).

I'm just thinking though... My commute from the end of last year and the start of this one featured a fair number of industrial estate roundabouts with great visibility so naturally the speed carried through them was above the norm (not un safe I'll just ad here.. lol).

Now though, the driving is allot more mixed, with mainly miles being clocked up. Is it possible the wear was just from repeated enthusiastic roundabout negotiation.. and the tyre is simply just wearing back to flat now that it's doing high speed straight line motorway driving?

I'm still getting it checked because it's been out in the past and pulled left.. It felt much straighter after it was re aligned last time and I think it's pulling a little left again since winters pot holes (more than just camber).. but only a smidge.

I was just wondering if a tyre would wear flat again once the alignments fixed?

I`d agree with you theory. Here in MK all our tyres wear on the outside edges faster than the rest of the tyre thanks to all the ****** roundabouts

Matt

If it was worn unevenly, but is now even again, wouldn't that suggest the other side is now wearing faster? Or am I mis-reading your point?

I know what your saying Joe..

But if it was just roundabouts causing the wear, like Matt confirms is a possibility.. and the wheel is still set up "flat" then surely that means the part that hasn't worn is now prominent? and once the tyre is flat again it'll go back to being normal?

Either way, It gets checked today so I'll report back :)

.. A wee update.... it was indeed well out ;)

Think I need to keep an eye on that wheel as it's the second times it gone out in a year.. Hmmmmmm.. More Torque on those bolts maybe?

The alignment that's "going out" is most likely the toe angle, which is not controlled by the wheel bolts but by the track control arm. If it's "going out" this regularly, try staying away from kerbs and potholes!
