slow start when cold

Featured Replies

hi anyone have this problem with scoda octavia ambience 01petrol. on cold start it takes sevrille turns of the key. when it heats up starts first time . had a diagnostic done changed spark plug leads, still the same problem. cannot touch throttle pedal on starting cold. i think its in the carbueretter not the right mix of air and petrol? regards davefh

The car has an injection not carburetter. Diagnostics should told you the problem. If not, you should go to another diagnostics.

Is your car 1.6?

Could possibly be a coolant temperature sensor, and with it being a 2001 car, it may have the older type which was prone to failure. It a black body. The newer ones are green. When you had the diagnostic done, did it tell you anything? It would be better to refer to any fault codes which are stored rather than replacing parts here and there in an attempt to fix the problem.

Does the starter spin fast enough?

As daavisz said, you don't have a carburettor, you have fuel injection.

And it's Skoda, not scoda.

Welcome to the forum! :hi:

The obvious one, battery? Generally when engine is cold there is more friction to overcome so the battery has a tougher job. Plus after a drive the alternator will have put more juice back into the battery. That combined with reduced friction would lead to the engine starting more easily once it is warm.
