Have you bought the new 15-85mm? I see it gets great write ups and even though it is a little more expensive it seems worth it.

Bugger

No been around much due to personal circumstances.

Was this an IS lens?

I would have had this to go with the camera I bought Phil.

If you have any more you are upgrading let me know.

Lady Elanore: 24-105 L series, after much umming and ahh-ing. It's a big bu99er, but results so far are nice.

Octimark: I did wonder about pm-ing you, but thought I'd put it out to the world. It is an IS lense, and it's a good step up from the 18-55 kit lense. Hope you're enjoying the 400D :)

I looked at this lens before getting my 17-55mm f2.8. I had given my 18-55mm kit lens away so had to have something a bit wider than the 24. The 24-105 gets great reviews  Currently I'm saving up for a 7D, but secretly want the new 70-200mm II. Might need to do a Jim McDonald to afford one though :(

Yep, seen that too. About £570 isn't it?

No chance for me at the moment; think I'd look at other ranges first anyway, before replacing the walk-about :)

7D is gorgeous, I've had a play with one.

Some many gadgets, so little time (and money ) :)

If I had the money, I'd find the time :D

Hahaha. Alas I have neither.

Plus my staff purchase shop is empty with the recent Earthquakes in Japan :(

I recently killed a big Sony laptop and I got a nice cheque from the insurance people. As I had already replaced the laptop, I felt I should waste it on something nice......................................... :D (not the M22 in the shot, which I think is nice at least)

This is a moderate crop from my 50mm at iso 1600 hand held and taken in my living room with only a few light bulbs on (no flash). Noise seems pretty good for 18mp on a small sensor and considering it was hand held too, it is resonably sharp :) No post production apart from the crop

M22's ............ Nice!

Picture's nice and sharp, too. I only have the cheapie 50mm f1.8, which is better than you'd expect for the price, but I suspect I'll end up going for the f1.4, which is much better engineered.

I got theM22s a couple of years ago from Superfi. After protracted ‘negotiation’ I gotthem brand new at half price :)

A friendsdaughter has the f1.8 and to be honest, it isn’t that much inferior to thef1.4, definitely not in line with it’s cheaper price. The f1.4 is better built, but still small and very light. It isn’t super sharp wide open either, but Iguess that is because it is quite an old design. I didn’t have a 50mm primebefore this one, but if I had already got the f1.8, I don’t think I would havechanged it until it wore out or got damaged, as it is a great lens andsomething of a barging considering the price. The f1.2 is of course the daddy, but I couldn’t afford or justify me getting one, I will leave that sort ofthing to Scuff and his ilk :)

One crazylens I do fancy is the 8-16mm Sigma which is purely designed for APS-C camerasand currently is getting race reviews too :) Anyone into taking car pictureswith a C sensor camera would love one of these.

For some strange reason when I try to post on Brisky it kicks me out and re-writing posts is getting on my nerves. Probably advanced middle aged grumpiness to blame :DOr do I need an image stabiliser on my keyboard? :D

Likely related to your persistent use of IE9!

A lower F-stop on your keyboard would also help.

IE9 was fine at first :(

I thought it might be interesting to see what my 40D looked like under the same conditions. iso1600, 50mm f1.4 and hand held. I took several shots and this is the sharpest. There is a lot more noise in the dark surrounds, less definition and the AWB (which i used on the 7D shot) is way out. The difference is more marked on the originals, rather than these hosted compressed versions. Also there is no sharpeing set in the 7D but there is in the 40D All pictures taken in a darkened room, with only a few lightbulbs for illumination-no flash

Just to add interest, this is with the 17-55mm f2.8. IS verses the higher speed of the f1.4 prime.

Just to give this thread a bump and even though it is off topic, I thought I would share with you this picture. It is the same speaker, with the same ambient lighting in my living room, but this time the lens is the new 70-200mmII f2.8. I have hired the lens for a long weekend and took the picture from a different angle owing to me using the full 200mm!! Thats hand held, a decent distance away at 200mm (320mm in real money) and at iso1600. Anyway the amazing thing is the lens is wide open too and yet it is surprisingly sharp. The image hasn't even been cropped, this is the jpg straight out of the box. There appears to be a slight softness on one side, but this is due to the fact I am slightly offset to the speaker and the focus is critical at his focal length. Anyway, see what you think compared to the other 2 lens I posted above. (Photobucket does soften the image a bit). I should add the curtains to my room are drawn, so the only light is a few of those dreaded Energy Saver lightbulbs :(
