A/C only switches on at fan speed 3-4

Featured Replies

Hi

I have recently discovered that my A/C in my Fabia vRS only turns on when the fan speed is set to 3 or 4. When ever I set the speed level to 1 or 2, the A/C automatically swithces off - just as if I turned it all the way to 0. When the A/C is turned on, it works fine, but what can be the reason to this behavior?

Best regards

Anders

I think because it has to have a decent amount of air flow to circulate the cold air.

I don't think it's supposed to work on #1, mine doesn't anyways but it's fine one 2,3 and 4.

Might be worth getting it checked out.

Mine works on all numbers, Do yo mean with the A/C on the fans completely switch off??

mine used to do it turns out it was the fan switch resistor in the dash if that helps at all :)

Hi guys

I know it has worked on all four speeds (but not on speed 0), so there must be something wrong.

Come to think about it... It has gradually become worse, since it began with speed 1 not working, and now speed 2 also..

Robbie88 -> I could take a look at the fan switch resistor. Do you know where it is located? Guess the price is fairly low for a new one?

Thanks

I just realized that the fan is not running at those speeds :giggle:

Should have checked that before posting, but I think the problem is solved for now. I'll reply here whether I find out this is the solution or not.

Update

The resistor is dead, so I'll see if I can get a new one tomorrow and replace it.

I've got a similar problem, have you got a part number for hte new resistor unit? I'm going to the stealers on Saturday so i'll probably get one at hte same time

just got mine out, there's no number on it other then 12375, surely thats not a part number?!

Just been out in the car and my AC works on #1 but not all that good as there isn't much air flow on #1 so I generally put the fan on #2 and above.

Guess the resistor being duff has been found out already. It works eventually just on 4 as this is when there is no resistance at all, with speeds 1 to 3 dead due to the resistance being broken to bring the fan speed down. Have replaced mine once.
