Fabia gearbox

Featured Replies

hi there im new here but my fabia is nearly 3 years old, its only an sdi estate but im trying to talk the gf into something a little faster :) anyway havnt had much joy with the car, the worst thing was a loss of drive in the fast lane of the motorway the gearbox was totaly shot  this is after only 30k so im wondering if anybody else has suffered a total gearbox failure? the dealer said i was a one off

the dealer said i was a one off

I bet they always say things like that...

Anyway, I have not heard of any problems on here with broken gearboxes, although someone here may have experienced this... and if not, then it doesnt mean it hasnt happenned before. Tis quite unlucky though.

Welcome BTW. :)

The gearbox in our 1.9 TDi was changed under warrenty.

The car had done under 30k miles.

I think other Briskoda members have had their gearbox changed and a search on this site may identify who they are.

The car that Devontopia drives had the gearbox changed (before he bought it,) perhaps he can confirm this for you.

The gearbox does seem to be a weak item on diesel fabias.

Hope this helps

If your car's under 3 years old and the dealer admits it's a "one off", I suppose it will be sorted under warranty.

When I test drove the VRS, I found the gearbox lacking the smoothness of my Elegance 2.0 (which was smooth from new). Are the gearboxes on diesels and petrols actually different (apart from the extra gear on the VRS)?

Gearbox on the TDI PD130 will be totally different to the 2.0 one... it not only has extra gear, but is equipped to handle more power and torque.

yes the gearbox was replaced when it happened also the clutch which i was billed

The gearbox on my mum's diesel Felicia failed twice. Apparently there was a design flaw that meant a particular part could work loose under certain circumstances. I don't know if the SDi Fabia uses the same 'box, though...
