Scout four-wheel drive

Featured Replies

Hello, since there is nothing in the handbook re above can anyone tell me how it works.

eg, is the power to front and back equal, or some other split and can it vary: also if a particular wheel loses grip, does the opposing wheel take more drive or does the slipping wheel lose power.

Hope you get the drift of my ignorance!

Thanks

You have a Haldex system, so basically your car is front wheel drive until "slip" is detected in a front wheel, when drive is then given to the rear axle. The system will allow all the drive to go to the rear if both front wheels slip.

It does not work cross axle, although you may have "traction control" which will electronically brake a spinning wheel as well. That is how the Yeti system works

Thanks much.

It is more subtle than I thought - and the other models which have the Haldex link is impressive too.

Much appreciated.

Hi, I installed time ago in my Audi TT a Haldex Performance Generation I, that it´s a better controler with some improvements over the original. With the Performance Gen I (AKA Haldex Race) the system doesn´t need to slip to send more torque to the rear axle, it sends more torque to the rear axle in the same proportion you push the gas. The Haldex 4th gen that is more modern than the one used in my Audi TT and is the one used in the Scout, has a better controler with a optional remote switch with three options: Eco, Stock and Race. In Eco only send traction to the front axle, Stock is the standard mode and Race is 50-50 locked.
