Fabias to avoid

Featured Replies

Just a quick question before I start anything.....a bit ago I bought a fabia VRS from a well known car dealers..took it for a test drive and paid deposite etc etc.....when it came to pick the car up I was told that they wouldnt sell me the car as it had suffered a small fire in the back of the engine at some point in its life and they deemed it unsafe to drive and uneconomical to repair so gave me my deposit back.

Instead of scrapping a dangerous car they put it into the car auctions....so out there somewhere is a potentially unsafe car that someone might unwittingly purchase.

Would I break any laws posting up the registration or get the forum into trouble etc etc.

It may well be fixed to an A1 standard...but then again it might not.????

what to do?

Is there a place on the forum to list "dangerous" and potentially unsafe cars that should either be avoided or alot more care should be taken inspecting the before agreeing to buy?

I always wish there was a website we could submit such details to, so every UNRECORDED salvageable vehicle that gets posted onto ebay, sold through anywhere, or someone has personally crashed could be named and shamed, to save others from buying what they assume is a perfect car.

I say post em' its just fact at the end of the day.

Be interesting if auctioneer had any such details (doubt it) and declared it to the potential punters/ buyers.??emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

I thought auctions were sold as seen?? So could technically well what ever you want at auction and mark it sold as seen..

Nothing would be said, I'm a regular at car auctions and as long as the car runs they'll try to cover up any mechanical problems if possible

There was a silver fabia I looked at in Glasgow at a small independent dealer about a year back. No history, had quite a few mods but in fairness looked nice. However under the bonnet was a total clusterf$%k. The intake was in bits held together with zip ties and not even attached to the engine properly, there was all sorts of nasty looking blue wiring and pipework covers and a FMIC sitting behind the grille which hadn't been plugged in. Saw it on ebay recently, presumably from the person who bought it, as it looked like a few things had been sorted out. Still I hoped it wasn't going to someone on here.

I'm not a lawyer, but I believe that as long as you make clear in your post that it's posted without prejudice, and you stick to the facts and not your opinions, you'd be fine.

Can't see why you'd get in trouble, but then I can't see why you'd want to do this. Why do you think you're in a position to make the call over the standard of repairs to a vehicle when you haven't seen them?

There are dozens of people on here who have been driving modded vehicles, then removed the mods and sold them as standard as the day they born guv'nor. They aren't in any trouble, 2nd hand cars are sold as seen.

When a garage refuses to sell me a car as they deem it unsafe to drive and beyond economical repair.....that would be a slight hint as to its state.....yes someone may buy it and repair it to a perfectly good standard.

Maybe "Fabias to avoid" is a bit harsh...maybe "Fabias to give closer inspection to" would be a better title.

Would you want to buy a car like this without knowing it has/had problems?...and potentially costing alot of money to repair.....might cost someone their life in the event of catastrophic failure if they drove the car unaware of its faults.

On hindsight though I think there may be legal issues with listing car registrations.

Its the chance you take when buying a car tbh!

Im running around in a cat d car and tbh i couldnt really give a fluff

Its repaired and just passed an mot with no advisories

My parents had a lush 2.0 Focus in a bright blue colour. It had various electrical issues in its life, and eventually set fire to itself with my mum in it.. She lived.

It was repaired, as the fire fizzled out, but they were never certain what started it. Needless to say it was part ex-d shortly after (for their Fabia that's in the for sale section oddly!).

I think naming & shaming is a great idea - I would absolutely tell anyone to avoid this Focus like the plague. Unless you like living with the possibility of being burnt alive.
