Noisy Fan-Belt, what needs replaced? (Video)

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

My fan belt makes a sort of grinding sound as it moves. It's not a squealing sound like when your belt is lose, just a bit noisy really and I'm wondering what could be causing it.

I don't think it's really a problem, but I'm selling the car in a month or two and I don't want the noise to put off any potential buyers.

Thanks guys :)

Heres a video, just in case it helps you guys.

Sounds a bit like the mpi timing chain noise but difficult to tell precisely through the video, best to take the belt off and then see if noise is gone.

If it is the timing chain, is that a sign it needs changed?

Hey Guys :'( it is indeed the timing chain. :(

My mechanic was very vague, and extremely negative about the whole thing when I picked the car up off him, kept saying "I don't know whether you want to get into that sort of money", so I'm worried sick rite now. He's going to ring Skoda tomorrow and get a price for it for me tomorrow at 3.

Does anyone have any idea what sort of money your talking for a timing belt?
