double din

Featured Replies

hi i was just wondering when you go down the double din route do they normally fit in the hole that's left from removing the factory fitted CD player and tray, or do you have to buy an insert to make it fit because i recently bought a clarion VX401e (double din) and it seems to be really small, the whole unit fits in side the hole probably about a centimeter each side if centered, i was woundering if any one else had this problem with any other unit.

Thanks Arron

You need a surround trim to cover up the exposed metal. Available on ebay etc...

OK...you only need the Skoda trim for the exposed top (as mentioned in previous post) is the external face of the Clarion the same size (within a couple of mm) as the total width and height (eg will it fill/cover the facia) it should be!! Then it is just the fact that the rear hidden part is smaller...there should be holes/treaded inserts in centre on back of Clarion...fit the rubber buffer from the Skoda radio onto this and grease with a bit of silicone grease as this should locate into the the hole in the back of the dash aperture, which will stop it moving around!!! That the problem when it is in the hole there was lots of room I'll have to take a picture to show u what I mean I'll do it after I finish work

My double din headunit needed a surround round it. Got it from eBay but buy the single din surround with the cubby then cut the plasic out of it. Reason is its half the price of the double din surround but its the same item.

Mine is like a miniture double din (it's the only way I can explain it) it's not the facia I need it's like an insert to make the hole smaller, I have seen an insert for a golf which look like it may fit so at week end I'm gona go to Halfords and try before you buy ;)

Obviously i was exaggerating a bit and sorry for the chubby fingers lol :D but this is what its like when fitted, a cage will probably sort the sides out but i would like to make it more secure as i dont want to hit a speed bump and it pop out.

You should already have the side bits for it? Get a cage and a surround and itll fit. Did you get a surround with the unit?

What mattievrs said , there should be a surround for the actual unit in the kit that comes with the headunit.

Nope there were no cages or bits in the box but the screws were lol, I msg'd the guy he's sending me the cage I hope

mine came with the unit, a surround and a cage. I then used an ebay surround

Could any one direct me to the right facia on eBay or the best place to go

This is the one i used and cut the plastic out of the middle to make it a double din facia

But you may need to add a seperate surround aswell to close all the gaps up if you didnt get one with your headsunit, in which case this is what id buy.It says for an octy but it fits a fabia aswell

This is what a Single Din looks like... the top strip above the stereo you can get from a Skoda dealer...the rest is down to the Headunit manufacturer and should be supplied with or available from them!! This is a cheap piece (£3 ish!!) code no 6Y0 857 231 B41 from your local Skoda dealer. B)
