Nearly overdid it with no fuel

Featured Replies

Was driving today from Germany to France in Reims, and wanted to empty the fuel tank on motorway and fuel up in Reims. GPS to a Hotel in Reims and the moment i near the end of motorway, total loss of mapping on Columbus (WEurope 7 map),and IPhone with last weeks TTom 1.7, Navigon 1.8, IGomyWay 1.3., Copilot8 etc).

It seems there is a new extenstion of motorway to Reims and no map available. Exited motorway, drove around back on motorway they way i came. Thankfully an exit to an industrial zone with a fuel pump!

60 litres fuel tank and saying only 5 km left and it took 62 litres, filling the pipe to the cap. Was scared i'm going to dry the tank and suck up the dirty stuff at the bottom which is no good.

Got to say this part of French motorway is superb, totally empty, quite new tarmac, an lovely 28 euro tolls, superb straight lines.

No more fuel tank testing for me B)

Never got that close before, I try and avoid wherever possible filling up on the autoroute, its always way more expensive than a local hypermarket/supermarket.

Shouldn't worry too much about letting the range get down to 5km, I've had my car down to showing 0miles range and been OK, was on my way to fuel station anyway. There always seems to be a margin for error in the range figure.

Ian

Ive had my tank down to zero on the computer and when I fill up it takes 55 litres on a 60 litre tank, that 5 litres would have given me another 45miles.

Had 35 miles on a Seat Toledo when it was showing a range of zero. If the needle moves off the stop there's fuel in it. Plenty of safety margin built-in!!!

i pulled into the garage in my focus ST with 0 miles to empty once lol, i say pulled i mean coasted lol.
