Coding a Columbus for maxidot, any recommendations in Fife or Dundee?

Featured Replies

I've been reading everything I can on the Columbus and have so far got to the stage of fitting it in the car with GPS antenna. I went to a dealer to get the security code for it. They took a few attempts to get the right code but I got it up and running. I said to them that as far as I know from reading up on the Columbus it would need coded to the car for me to get all the functions as I had a Stream mp3 before. Their response was less than inspiring. They just said "I don't know, we've never done that before, we only ever change like for like stereos if they are faulty. You'll just need to try it out and see." I just had to leave because by this time the Columbus was locked out for an hour after failed attempts with the wrong code.

I'm going to try the Dundee dealers and see if they have done it before or know what needs done but in case has anyone got any recommendations for a diagnostic place in Fife or Dundee that I could go to. Even better would be a list of things I need to change for it to take with me. I'll then see if there is any battery drain issue but its been fine so far although I do hear a fan or something spinning when I have had the unit out but still plugged in after a few hours since driving.

It seems to do everything except show up on the maxidot, secret menu and rear parking sensor. I think the rear sensor may need a newer control unit but should I be able to get the maxidot working via the vagcom stuff? I'll see if they can tell me the gateway version I have as well.

It is a 3T0 035 680 A, HW: H06, SW:2724 out of a Superb and my car is a september 2007 57 reg Octavia VRS.

Thanks

In general dealers have no idea what their doing, they hook it up and follow a flow chart or let Skoda tech do it. You need to go into the CAN controller and tick Satnav and it will then display on the maxidot. Best to find someone local with VCDS.

Thanks. I'm wondering if it's worth just taking it to the local garage I've used in the past and see if they could do it if they have the equipment.

Colsand, have a look at the list on the first pinned item - List of VAG-COM Diagnostic System (VCDS) Owners , there is somebody in Dundee and another in Fife, you will get better (and considerably cheaper) help from these forum members than you ever will from a dealer...

I've had a look through the list and there is one person listed for fife. It says micro can, I'm not sure what my car will have, I'll need to have a search about that. Somebody has pm'd about details of getting it done by someone in Dundee as well. I'm going to speak to the garage I use here in Cupar as he is pretty good and see how I get on. Thanks.

Job done! Columbus all coded in and chatting happily to the maxi dot plus a secret menu to play with.

Big thanks to Scott in Dundee and Ed somewhere on the end of a phone!

What did you have to do to get the columbus displaying in the maxidot?

Navigation > ticked in the CAN gateway

On older cars > make sure BAP is not ticked

On newer cars with white clocks > make sure BAP is ticked

Thanks Eddie
