Am looking for an active mobile phone cradle for a 2010 Octy Elegance to hold a HTC Desire, which has it's USB lead at the bottom of the device.

I'd like to be able to let the missus drive the car, but she has a HTC Desire S, which has it's USB lead side mounted.

I'd also like the deivce at eye hight (not near the steering wheel) as I use it for Sat Nav, but I don't want it suction mounted.

And I don't want it leaving nasty holes in the dashboard.

As the Desire (mine) will be used more often than not - is there any way I can simply drop the device into the cradle, but if need be undo the power lead from the cradle and plug it into the side mounted Desire S?

Am looking at Brodit - Any suggestions?

BTW - both the HTC Desire and HTC Desire S use the tiny USB connector - it's just located at different locations.

Will the active Brodit mount for a HTC Desire allow me to remove the power cable and drop a HTC Desire S in there and reposition the charging cable to the side to allow me to charge that?

Sounds like you might be better with a passive holder in that case

I also have a silicone jacket on the HTC Deisre and the missus has a Gel Hard Jacket on her Desire S - Do these need removing before they will drop into the cradle?

Another option would be to get the simple passive mount and use a ciggy lighter usb converter with a usb cable like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/micro-dc-to-usb-adaptor-274029

Unless you get an adjustable holder then yes, you'll need to remove the skins, the mounts are a very snug fit.

I knew I should have got the Columbus and Bluetooth upgrades :(
