drls dim on sidelight

Featured Replies

hi,

i noticed that the drls are brighter when sidelights are not selected. as soon as i select sidelights they dim and no other lights come on except the rears and dial lights.

should there be any other lights that come on in the headlamps?

why do they dull and can this be changed to make brighter by dealer or does it dull for a reason?

cheers

There are no other lights which come on in the headlight, your DRL's are your sidelights on the vRS.

The reason they dim is similar to why your radio display dims when you switch on your headlights.

i.e. During the day in bright sunlight the radio display needs to be very bright for you to see it, but when the ambient light fades if the display stayed that bright it would be uncomfortable to look at so it dims.

The DRLS are the same- very bright during the day so that people can see them in the bright daylight, but once it is darker outside (which it will be if you need to put your lights on) if they stayed so bright they would dazzle other drivers (as their eyes woudl be used to low light levels) so they dim a bit.

Simples!

alright cool.

thanks

As above this is perfectly normal...

If they were positioned like the Audi ones, actually in the headlights, they would also dim when you indicate. Watch an Audi A4 etc... next time you see one indicate the LED's on that side dim down so you can see the indicator clearly. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

In addition to what the others have said the regulations that brought in DRLs require them to dim or go out completely when the sidelights or headlights are switched on to prevent them blinding people at night. Unfortunately this doesn't stop numpties driving around as it gets dark with no lights on blinding everyone with their DRLs as it happened to me last week.
