Air con steaming up windows.

Featured Replies

I was driving to work this morning and giving the aircon a run with the re-circulator on. After 40 mins, temp set to around 20c fan speed 2 blowing at windscreen and feet, the windows steamed up, almost instanly. I'm understanding that the air-con system dehumidifies the air so that you can recirculate the air without this problem. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem?

Cheers.

apparently it don't work under 5 degrees ambient air temp

Yes you are. To quote from the Octavia Owner's Manual - but the advice applies equally to the Fabia:

Warning

The recirculated air mode must only be selected for short periods as no fresh air is supplied to the interior and the windows may mist up.

Cheersm, That may explain it, but I wasn't paying much attention to the temp.

I'll try the same run tommorrow, don't start work till 10 so it should be a little warmer.

Usually the re-circuraltor will turn it self off after about 2 mins if the AC is off, but it stays on permanetly if the AC is on. So I presume you can leave it on all the time.

The thing that concerned me is the speed they steamed up, less than 30seconds. Fortunatly I was stopped at some lights so I could wipe the glass clear.

That's not what it says in the Owner's Manual. And if you are right, why is there be a prominent warning to the contrary in the Manual?

If the air con was running (ie ambient temp above 5 degrees) then regardless of whether the recirc is on or not..the windows should not steam up..full stop.

The air con dries the air, removing moisture so no misting occurs....but only if the air con is running.
