FIRST M.O.T CHECK 1.4 TDI 70BHP

Featured Replies

Well my 2008 Fabia 1.4tdi 3 cylinder 70bhp is going for its first m.o.t on tuesday next, so what to expect? whats the main issue the car has done 46k in 3 years, dealer wants it in before warranty runs out so any problems can be sorted with the warranty ,the only issue I have when changing gear and releasing the clutch a strange noise is audible not a clunk but a audible strange kind of noise, may need some new tyre's on the rear whats the general consensus on which is good quality but well priced 15" , if it requires new brakes n stuff what do I do go with dealer or get the bits myself and get my mate to ft (ex-skoda mechanic), as I dont want to upset the applecart so to speak, maybe better to leave the dealer do the work?,however this maybe quite a strain on wifes purse strings

Hello Seb,

You know the 1.4TDI is one of the most well sorted Fabia's going. There are no real issues that come up except the normal service items that will need doing. It's one of the reasons I chose the 1422cc TDI for myself. It's powerful, it does one zillion miles per gallon, and it's bullet proof...unless that is someone is actually shooting at you with real bullets!! Does that happen in Wales? The transmission on these tends to be a bit noisey ie: clutch noise, you can hear it engage and disengage when travelling slowly at low revs and the engine often will make a grumbling noise too changing gear at low speed. I suspect you are just hearing ordinary 1422cc TDI noises with yours. But can't tell for certain without hearing it of course. Mention it to your dealer. My dealer, who has been a Skoda dealer for 6 years tells me he has never had to strip a 1422cc TDI engine to fix anything yet...and they just go for ever and ever with the highest mileage vehicle he has had to service with this engine being one with 276,000 miles on the clock from new and it ran like new still with almost no oil being used! Impressive.

I suspect that you car will fly through the MOT without problems. Let us all know Seb. Good luck mate!

Thanks Estateman mind is now at ease , as this MOT is free this time I will let them deal with any issues i.e tyres and brakes, but I will let my ex-skoda mechanic sort it out in the coming years, he can do the service as well, 276,00 wow that amazing in regard the noise not unduelly worried as it pulls and leaves other vehicles in the distance great little engine, and finally the diesel is a little cheaper although done several brim to brim now and I get between 70-80 mpg unbelievable really whats the point of spending 20-30 k on a prius B)

I can't expect too much to be wrong at 40K miles on your Fabia mate.

Mine's due a MOT in August when I reckon the mileage will be about 15000, so I'm hoping it will be ok, mine will prob fail on lack of use.

As bullet proof as the 1.4 tdi is... it dont half sound like a tractor =/

A fast run for say 15 miles immediately before the MOT should blow out all the muck in the exhaust so that car should then pass the emission smoke test ( particulate count) at the 1st test run . Could save up to 9 test runs up to 3,000 rpm !

Generally dealers are expensive for tyres charging top money for major brand or fitting cheap for price you can get top or at least mid-brand for.

Assuming 195/55/15 look at these on tyre shopper

http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ts/search/tyredetails.aspx?code=1955515BA2H

or if not try your size

Order on line and fitting at National Tyres

Barum are part of Continental Group and reviews of these tyres are good.

Yep...stable and recovering for now thanks Seb. I've actually had three lots of surgery on them after going blind twice now. Suffered a bit of eye damage to start with but this seems to be repairing it's self to a large degree. The holes in my vision that I was left with have also fixed themselves (something that doesn't normally happen I'm told) and my vision is slowly returning to normal. My eye surgeon can scarcely believe it. I'm told I'm extremely lucky not to be permanently blind...phew!!! :o The thing that appears to have made the difference was my wife bundling me into our Fabia and wisking me to my optician who made the initial diagnosis and sent me to the relevant emergency eye clinic where surgeons were waiting for me. If I'd gone to A&E I would probably not have been able to access the specialist centre quickly enough before permanent blindness set in. Wife still thinks a poke in the eyes with a bicycle spoke will work wonders, she keeps trying!:D

were would we be without them eh :D, mine's a cracker she gets pulled one a year!!!!:giggle:, glad your on the mend so is the missus driving you round (the bend),you were very lucky she took you straight to the opticians

Yes...very lucky I went to the opticians as my first port of call. It's best to go there first (unless you have trauma such as a steel spike stuck in your eye or something similar, in which case it's A&E!!) here in Essex at least as they are the ones who can refer you immediately to the specialist emergency treatment centre you need and they make all the arrangements for you. So everyone is waiting for you at the other end. I was having emergency surgery just two hours after diagnosis of my eye condition. It saved my sight! I had to give up driving my car and riding the motorcycles for about 3 weeks but my vision had returned enough to be ok behind the wheel after that. My eye surgeon told me I would probably be permanently blind if I'd gone to A&E....:(
