Anyone tried bluefin?

Featured Replies

Hi all so my vrs is costing me loads of ££ with tasteful mods  oh well what's my partner don't know don't hurt does it? and 2day when I was looking on eBay I saw this bluefin chip devise? It states Superchips' Bluefin allows you to bring your car alive and maximise the performance of your vehicle. No mechanical or technical skills required - this allows you to DIY performance tune your car. Just simply plug-in and go. Superchips have over 27 years experience in improving vehicle performance and have remapped more than 500,000 cars. Has any1 tryed this kind of chip? If so how easy is it to do? Any change in speed ect? Thanks all.

Can't speak for Bluefin, but take a look at the STS by Shark Performance B)

ChipMyCar (who i've used) also utilise a self tuning package. I cant fault the map I have on my car! :)

Just out of interest how much is the bluefin unit? As I think it may be a used one and will need to be cleared and and a new map put on it before you can use it ,see the superchips bluefin site, if you want one to do that with you can have mine for 50 pounds .....but the clearing and a new map will probably set you back 300 pounds on top of that

It's £455 just seems a lot when you can't take it to a garage and get it done, I know there is a garage down is Essex stage one remap pluss Decat and dyno run £500 :wonder: ??

I've had two bluefin handsets in previous cars...

One on my focus RS as at the time nothing else was available it was very good and gave me along with a Decat and exhaust gains of 40bhp and the same in torque.

I had one on my st220 and it was shocking so sent it back...you can't gain much from a n/a car as most will know!

The bluefin plugs in to the car you press a few buttons and

Off you go!

Personally I'd look more towards a VAG tuner like revo or shark. There are plenty of revo dealers about, look on their website and type in your postcode...I had one done by a guy local enough to me on my golf gti and it was a massive Improvement

I've heard that superchips map ain't that good, but I haven't tried them myself so ignore me. :D

Best thing to do is try it and see! If it was me though, I would go to a mapper who is well known on here, such as Shark Peformance (I got this), Jabba, R-Tech etc etc.

I 100% want a remap/chip, but don't want to get ripped off

Try shark I am very impressed with their map.

Fuel economy has dropped but that might just be me using all that power, the surge of acceleration is addictive.

I paid £350 for mine from ChipMyCar. Still does 30's round town and 40 on a run and not driving like miss daisy. That's for a self tune unit and map.

I only get around 25mpg but the car only gets used on weekends, it’s hard to keep it under 3000rpm hence 25mpg.

Doing 70mph getting 37mpg ish

I had a Bluefin on my Mk2 VRS Tdi. Very good, car was as quick as a standard VRS mk2 petrol after map (verified :giggle: )

Was £380 , sold it for £270 11 months later when I sold the car which is another advantage - if the unit is less than 12 months, Superchips will reset it FOC so you can sell it on. Shark has a very good reputation on here to and they do a similar STS unit. PM Ben @ Shark

I did hear shark was good also, but with this self chip systems how do you know it's worked? Would you notice the extra power that much? B)

Yes! I alo had a Dreamscience on my Focus ST225 - similar plug in and download unit. Very noticable difference. The ST also had a standard boost guage which showed alot more boost being generated.

Believe me, you'll notice the difference, the car will be totally transformed. The shark STS module is a great piece of kit and also doubles up as a fault code reader if you have any faults that need to be diagnosed. I have a shark remap on my Superb and its very good, and was done at a very good price compared to the others about.

Yes you would it's a total transformation it will be more then obvious it's worked.

Yep I knew straight away when I had mine done. I'd had maps from different tuners on my car but the one i have now is awesome!

Note that some newer VAG engines, particularly the diesels, now have encryption on the ECU. This means that the bluefin remap doesn't work and the ECU needs to be pulled out to be re-flashed.

I am currently going through this process with my MY2011 Superb 103kw TDI. It is causing some headaches because the ECU had to be sent away to someone with the equipment to do the re-flash. Then it still wasn't working properly (not sure the exact issue as the local dealer wasn't too specific on this) and the ECU has to be sent away again. Hopefully superchips UK will be able to troubleshoot what the exact problem is.

All in all a lot of hassle.

Had I known about the issues with encryption in advance, I would most likely have left things as standard.

Being as the OP has an Octavia Mk1 vRS, I don't think that encryption will be a problematic factor in his remap. For the OP, check out the Octavia Mk2 forum, as there is rumblings of a Shark Performance Group Buy - Stage 1 Map (which will put you at 210bhp.) and a Self Tuning System box for £314.10....can't grumble at that.

Or, by the sounds of what Ben (shark_90) is saying, if you travel to his workshop a Stage 1 remap will cost you just £164!!! :o

my comments were perhaps a bit out of context in this thread, given the OP's vehicle.

However I thought it was worth adding them for the benefit of anyone that is searching for advice about bluefin generally. Their website is noticeably thin on any comments or cautions regarding encryption, which I think is a bit surprising. I will start a separate thread on this in a different part of the forum as it would be useful for anyone with a later model diesel to know.

No worries, I hope my post wasn't taken out of context. It was just an observation. You are right about the Superchips website, another reason why I am getting on the Shark group buy bandwagon.
