no power

Featured Replies

hiya folks.

i bought my octavia mk1 tdi a while ago, and recently took it on a trip along the A1 northbound from peterborough, to wakefield. i have always found it to be woefully short on power, and on a couple of occasions, had to drop a gear in order to climb the incline. I can hear the turbo coming on, but even on the flat there is no noticeable feeling of urgency when the accelerator is floored.

there are no warnings on the dash, and she starts and ticks over beautifully, over the weekend i have covered over 300 miles, and the trip computer tells me i have averaged 55 mpg.

am i wrong to expect to Feel the turbo boost?

or can anyone suggest what might be the cause?

Thanks people in advance :D

welcome to briskoda

I am no mechanic but I have a similar issue with my Octavia 110bhp. Once put under strain, especially in 3rd gear, the car misfires at just over 3000 revs. In my case the turbo is sticking and if possible will be released manually (basically it is corroded). If this is not possible I am having to buy a new turbo!

There will be others on this site who have greater knowledge than me.

Good luck

My son had a Megane with exactly the same problem described, turbo could be heard wooshing but no power, initially sounded like one of the pipes was leaking under pressure, sadly when we pulled these to check them it was clear the inlet impellor was worn and the shaft had a fair bit of play, cured with second hand turbo from local breakers.

Air mass meter would be my guess. You may want to post in the relevant Octavia forum to get a better response.

loose air hose from the turbo?

Welcome to briskokda....I had a similar problem with my passat SE 1.9 TDi drove all the way to The Ring all good....then 100 yards just through the cones and no power limp mode had kicked in :( drove all the way round and then dumped the car for the week....got her home and it was mass air flow sensor, had sold the car to my mate by then but he fixed it :) £50

If you switch the car off and back on do you get boost back? that's what I did all the way home from Germany :D as soon as I took the boost up and then it dropped she went into limp mode, didn't stop carried on the Mway switched off engine and back on again and it reset her and she was flying again. Still did the full trip home on a tank well 50 miles left to refuel B)
