Differences between Sport and Amibiente

Featured Replies

My car is a 2005 MKII Octavia Sport as far as I am aware. The log book though lists it as an Ambiente. Is this always the case with the sports models or is there a chance mine is not a sport afterall? From looking at other Octavias it looks like mine has a different front and rear bumper and also a lip spoiler on the bootlid.

So what is the difference between sport and ambiente models? Any differences in suspension?

You got it, sports suspension, different front and rear bumpers, rear boot lid lip spoiler and different alloy wheels...

...if yours looks like this then it should be the Sport...

Early 2005 Sport's never had the front fog lights though...

I had an Elegance with Pegasus alloys and a bootlip spoiler like those but no sports bumpers. It did say Elegance on the V5 and invoice though...

That last pic is actually my car! :-) Thanks for the info. It was just the log book bit that was causing me to question if it was a sport but obviously it is.

there was a "sports pack" available also, which I had on my previous elegance, which was the Pegasus alloys and lower springs. the spoiler is available seperately too, I bought the full sport kit and had a sport/elegance hybrid

my car is the sport and lists it on the log book, there is not many sports as you may think, i was informed by skoda that they were made as the vrs had a massive back log.

you find most of them are (55) & (06) mines a sport and its a (55) plate but reg in 2006.

i love mine, i got the vrs door bump strips on and the vrs spoiler with the vrs interior, couldnt afford vrs insurance at time, but i love mine now.

Yeah I really like the subtle styling of it. Stands out a bit more than the standard MKII. Any idea how much lower it is suspension wise?

It says Ambiente or Elegance in a V5 document because it is so ... Sports is an invented model to include another model in the line up,sort of a poor man's VRS.Stick a couple of skirts to the front and rear bumper, rear spolier, fancier alloys and suspension and there you go,another model ... No Octavia left CZ in that form.all retro fitted by Skoda UK and marketed as such ...

Interesting info. Thanks for that Ivan.

20mm-30mm I think and I'm 95% sure it was lower than the vRS. If I remember rightly the 1st Sports used the Eibach springs from the main dealers too

Did the Sport come in the 1.9 diesel engine or only 2.0?

I'm trying to find the ref of any 1.9 Elegance that cane with the sports pack so I can use it to order the suspension parts.

Silver1011, where did you get those photos? Any idea what engine they are?

Personally I would much rather have a Sport than a vRS as its a much more exclusive club  and doesn't get you believing you have the best car because you have a vRS :giggle:

Surely the vRS is has just got couple of big bumpers/alloys/suspension stuck on?

The Sport only came in a 2.0 pd140 or 2.0 fsi

According to my Octavia accesories guide the Sports Suspension part numbers are FAA 619 002

See PDF Page 8 / Brochure Page 9 Octavia Accessories Guide

Fair enough.

I'll need to keep searching for a 1.9 with Sports Pack then!

Just read the PDF there, I see you were referring to the 1.9 Sports Suspension part number. Excellent, thanks!

Would there be any way of getting individual part numbers for the shocks and springs? Or would the reg of a car with said kit be required just?

A main dealer should be able to break the package down and get the individual part numbers.

Personaly I would look aftermarket at the Eibach springs as they will give you the same drop in height

I had looked at them and Bilsteins shocks, but thought going down the OEM route from GSF or Eurocarparts fir the Sports bits might be cheaper.

I assume 1.9 TDi Jetta/Golf Sport shocks are the same?

I don't think the Golf Sport dampers/springs will work as the rear of the Octavia is much longer and heavier than the golf, not sure if the Jetta uses the same setup as the Golf.

I've fitted the Bilstein dampers from EuroCarParts and very happy with them, they are marked as OEM replacements for my car and the ride was a little improved over the OEM dampers

Do you have a link for them? Are they listed as sport etc? £?

I see there's Bilstein listed, no mention of the OEM 1 being Bilstein. £80 per shock though!!

The Bilstein Dampers I fitted dont appear to be available on the EuroCarParts website :( the part number I bought is 625444395, I also only paid £43.42 per damper. They weren't marked up as sport dampers, I believe they are the same dampers as used on the Elegance/L&K models.

Hmm, sounds like what I should have in my Elegance.

Might just have to crack open the piggy bank and go aftermarket.

Mine says Sport on my V5,

But my insurance company had trouble finding it on there database

Got it insured as a Sport in the end, as i gave them the original reg no. that was on my car as opposed to my private plate, and they then seemed to find Sport on there list.

I still can't understand how it can be called a sports model when all they did was add extra weight with no performance gains what so ever ... if it really looked that good then it would have left the factory as such, even though they are original accessories equipment ... You should be able to buy each item as an accessory from a main dealer. The sports suspension is the same for a 1.9 and a 2.0 ltr diesel and is a set of 4 springs and shocks which lower the car by some 30 mm but bloody hell they are expensive.I fancy the rear spoiler.Discreet and not as vulgar as the RS one, quite cheap and no need to drill any holes.Migh consider doing just that ...

The 1.9 and 2.0 shocks are different sizes.

But the lowering spring/damper skoda do as an accessory is listed as the same for both 1.9 and 2.0 ltr diesels ... Maybe the can be retro fitted once you change everything ...

The 1.9 and 2.0 shocks are different sizes.
