Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

Why do the parking sensors only work in reverse gear? It defies logic that the sensors on the front do not work when putting the car into a confined space in drive and sensing space forward of the car as it approaches a wall in a parking station for instance or distance from another car as you turn into a parking space between two cars.

If you press the button (right hand side, furthest forward) next to the gear stick, this will turn the front sensors on without having to select reverse (it can also turn the beeping off for both front and rear sensors)

(Page 131 of the manual describes it)

Thanks, I knew someone would have the answer. I have RTFM quite a few times but don't recall that little bit. I still think it is dopey having to switch them on though.

Edit: It is on page 123 in my manual and all it says is that they can be switched off by that button. But I am inquisitive so I went and tried it and voila! it works but is definitely not in my book so thank you, BTW how did you find it?

You'd soon get fed up with them going off every time you were in a traffic queue.

On my old Mercedes the front ones worked below 5 mph. A better way to have them working i think, having had both systems the Mercedes system is better.but i still would not swap my super B.

Yes, I drive a Mercedes van daily and the sensors are far better. The only slight issue is if stopped and someone walks close to the front of the van they go off. I also cannot overrate the Merc system of putting a distance measure in the outside mirrors so when reversing using the mirrors you actually see the distance to go in the mirror in a series of lit dots, brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
