Problems with 2ltr 140 common rail not another one

Think you will find the CR140 is fitted to an Octavia.

the engine with the oil pump drive problems isnt fitted to the octavia, didnt mean a 2.0 common rail one isnt

I cant see where he has quote a particular engine (code) he just said CR140.

i work for skoda hence knowing which engine he means, i'm merely telling everyone not to go into panic mode because the problem engine isnt fitted to the octavia, it was in the A6/A4/superb. fair play to the OP for thinking it might be worth a look for the octavia owners

So instead of being cryptic why don't you add to the pot what you know - such as engine codes that it affects, vehicles they are fitted to (from what date etc) to give the owners a fighting chance?

Also how many failures do you personally know about, what damage was done at what mileage and SUK's take on the matter.

So can you sort out cheap serving and stuff for members?

have done with a few members yes i'm always happy to help them with parts/prices/part numbers. as for putting all the problem info on here that wouldnt be much use as this is the octavia section and had no reference, there was a big thread no so long back on the issue where the hexagon oil pump drive rounds off and thus doesnt pump any oil, poor design as the drive is pretty much the same size and shape as a bic biro so as you can imagine your whole engine rests with this little component

Could you please explain in layman's terms whats the difference between the engine in the Superb and the Octy, not being technically minded they are both the same power output, both sit the same way in the engine bay, and both more than likely have the same gearbox

Fair point, here is the link to the original thread in the Superb forum where it would be of use though: http://briskoda.net/...tr-common-rail/

As far as I'm aware the oil pump issue only affects londitudinal PD engines in Superb 1's and not the transverse ones in the Octy. So they do not sit the same way in the engine bay. There does not seem to be any reports on this forum of this problem arising on a BKD engine. This has been discussed several times at length in several threads on the Superb section of the forum.

A link was posted on the Yeti forum by a fellow briskodian from the Superb II forum.

Going by the description given by a poster from Malta in the Superb II forum I'm guessing their refering to the CFFB 140 CR and possibly the CFGB and CBBB 170 engines which use an oil pump driven by a 100mm drive shaft. The description suggests it's this shaft that is giving problems on CR engines over there.

Apart from this guy in Malta who is saying he has encountered and fixed "quite a few" under warranty how many other people have reported issues with oil pumps on CR140 engines either on this forum or any other VAG related forum?

Following a quick search I can't find any other references to this elsewhere but I'm willing to be corrected.

its the BMP/CBBB/CFFB/CFGB setup thats the problem, few other codes but this will give you an indication of the setup, we've sold around 40 of the hexagon drive units in the last 12 months

So you're saying this almost an identical rerun of the hex drive rounding off problem that bedevilled 2.0 PD engines in the Mk1 Superb (and other VAG vehicles)? If so VAG don't seem to be capable of learning any engineering lessons.

Can you give us the part No.s of the replacement parts then as there seems to be a bit of confusion on the engines, as some use a 77mm shaft and others a 100mm shaft and you are saying both are effected.

A cross reference with ETKA to confirm ALL of the engine codes they are fitted to would be good as well.

BMP/CBBB use the 77mm shaft 03G 115 281 F

CFFB/CFGB/CLJA use the 100mm shaft 03G 115 281 E

these are the mk2 engine codes

mk1 are as follows

BSS/BWW use the 77mm bar 03G 115 281 F
