Columbus v7 map upgrade

Recommended Posts

Sorry about this folks, as I realise that there are a tonne of entries on this general topic, the 7 digit post codes and the firmware, etc

However, I find conflicting info about this particular question: "How do I upgrade just the maps?"

I have a v7 disk - it was sealed and in the glove box

I understand that if I put it in and basically nothing happens then it means that this version is already installed.

Well, I got prompts for "Save" and "Temporary"... I understand that temporary means use the maps from DVD rather than install. Is that correct?

Now, should I (a) switch on the ignition; (B) start the car;

If (B) can I drive around while its installing?

Is there any indication of install progress? I can't seem to see anything much happening...

Basically, I have inserted the disk, got the "Save" or "Temporary" prompt, and selected "Save"... then nothing for about an hour and a half, when I got fed up, switched off and went indoors.

ideas, opinions, or (preferably) the correct process?

Puss

I did it the other week pressing save like yourself and after leaving it for about an hour with no key in the ignition or anything the screen had gone blank. I started it up shortly after that to go to work and pressed eject then a message came up saying still copying. There were 3 options to press, one was notify which I went for. It went back to the radio then about ten minutes later a message popped up on screen saying it was complete. I was then able to eject the disc. I never saw any progress indicator at any point.

I suppose you could try turning the stereo on and pressing eject to see if you get the message.

@colsand: Thanks a lot... I'll sit in the car in the morning and try! The wife'll hate me!
